Auger ice
« on: Jan 02, 2004, 09:46 PM »
Had a little trouble with ice forming on our power auger last year.It prevented us from drilling another hole, until we chipped the ice off.Cold at the pike derby last year.
Was wondering if anyone had tips on a non polluting solution to this?
Thanks

Drink lots of wobbly pops prior to drilling, then when the build up gets to be too much just urinate on your auger. Best make sure you drink lots so you can remove lots ;D

Outdoor:
I have used WD-40 in the past.  It works great but is a real pain to do after every hole.  Here is what I do now...Immediately after I punch a hole, I pull the auger out and as soon as it is out of the water I mash the throttle down to sling off any water that is on the blades.  I then lay the auger on the ice sideways.  I never bore a half hole.  Maybe that will help...works for me.
