I've never hooked a pike larger than 38" in my area. My tip ups are mixed with either a single #6 Gamakatsu hook or #12 treble. Both seem to work well, but I do favor the little treble.

Well, i can say ive tried some of the things youve recommended and i've had success.

TIhanks to Gordy, i also tried tail hooking dead bait with a single small treble and had a perfect hookset in the corner of the mouth.

Were you being awesome and hanging vertically?  Try it with a golden and see what happens if you haven't already.  Over weeds...apparently the goldens can be found feeding head down and the pike like to take advantage.

Watching flags not pop, being quiet, and putting meat down the hole.  Got a 42" tiger landed and released already...going to be hard to beat...setting up at 2am this morning...plenty of quiet time before the sun rises and before the snow flies.

Good stuff! I haven't sent any dead bait down yet, but Monday it's on.
