Transducer placement
« on: Feb 06, 2018, 07:11 PM »
Hey Guys:
I’m sure this has been asked many times but how deep are you supposed to put your transducer in the water? I tried a search of previous posts but didn’t find anything. Just used my M1 last weekend for the first time  and it was a true revelation!

I typically place it so the bottom of the transducer is just below the bottom of the ice.

center of hole and just wet enough to remove the air. this is good for up to 24 inches of ice. makes landing fish much easier.
also saves fish line cuts to the cable.

I like to put mine just below the ice because I just use the 1 hole for my line as well and the xducer is less in my way.
Keep yer stick on the ice!

At almost 30 inches of ice now I'm still placing whichever transducer I'm using (MarCum LX-5 dual-beam or Garmin GT8HW-IF) just below the surface of the water. Not even centered in the hole either and both seem to mark just as well as they do hanging under the ice bottom. Holes drilled with the K-Drill 8".

X2.. not having 3+ ft of cable down is a bonus.the lx7 is a powerful unit.
