Marcum lx3 ?????

Ordered and should be delivered today a Marcum lx3 ice fishing pack and was wondering how well these units can shot through and give accurate depth readings through the ice before cutting a hole and is detecting fish even possiable when doing this? I have heard with a Vex you can get depth readings with some water on top of the ice but not able to detect fish so is the same true for the Marcum or does the extra power help when doing this before cutting a hole. Thanks

You have been misinformed, if it is good clear ice you can pick up fish with both units without drilling a hole. On the other hand, if the ice is dirty and/or honeycombed, neither will do a very good job on finding bottom or fish without drilling a hole.
