Fenwick
« on: Oct 06, 2011, 11:12 AM »
Fenwick came out with a new series of ice rods. Anyone take a look at these? Looks like an okay price point but no spring bobber like the St Croix. Any input???

Look good. None of my Rods came with a spring Bobber. I put some on two of my rods for the wife but I have never used them. I know when a fish is biting and she has to see it happen.

Sharp looking reel seat, like the looks of the guides too, half the price of the ST Croix Legend !

They look nice, only problem would be mounting the reel on the rod handle wherever you want to mount it. With the fixed mounting location it doesn't look like this would be possible.

Saw the new Fenwick rods at Scheels today. Very nice looking rods. I really like the handle.

Finally got it (25" UL) today and man O man isnt she purty!

Real soft overall feel through the whole blank and nice big guides. I love the grip, feels kinda like wax coated cork. Perfectly balanced with a President 6720 on there.

MY BEST ROD YET!! I love this thing!

I picked up 2 of the mediums and think they are gonna rock for hook sets. Nice back bone, sweet handle. Great all around rod IMO.

I've found them on Amazon for $23 shipped!  Can't beat that.  I think I'm going with the 24" ML.   ...and I wasn't going to buy any new rods this year!

I think I might put the 28" ML on the X-mas list along with an Abu Garcia Cardinal 301i reel.

Could anyone who has or gets the 28 ML post up an overview of what they think of the rod?

I like to see what real world users think of its ability.

I went to Cabelas with the intentions of buying one- ML, and didn't like that they were "to" soft., so I got a ML- North Land Pro series instead- it's lighter and both were same price. Going to add a St. Croix tip to it.

I agree, the ML felt to loppy to me.

Lol I know, I have a sick obsession of tracking my order everytime I go online (which is a ton! Lol) should get it tommorrow night and will hopefully post something up Friday, hopefully it's not loppy or too soft as people are saying, although it just means I'll have to set the hook harder, I have no problem with that  ;D

Just picked up 2 25" ULs and they feel reel like. The balance in the hand feels great along with the contoured handle.

I noticed that some folks don't like the soft tip of the UL. I'm not really a panfish guy but wouldn't you want a soft tip for light bites?

I guess they are looking for bigger game and want more backbone.

I personally wanted a true UL since I already bought a few rods that were too stiff for pannies. (trial and error)

I run a spring bobber  or panfish. Light biting fish show up better and are less likley to spit the jig because they felt the rod when they bite. I usually use a medium action rod with a spring, it dont need to bend all the way to the handle to enjoy the fight IMO.

Received my ML today, as others have said it is a little softer than I would have liked but is still a great adition to the arsenal. My genz light has more backbone then it, gonna see if I can do something similiar to the nail clipper test with it tomorrow to give you an idea. Love the handle though, only about a month ad a half left till I get to give it the real test, going to be ordering the medium as I'd like to see what that's like, plus I could always use another walleye rod.  ;D

The medium has lots of backbone FYI.
