Jig em-up ice jigs
« on: Nov 25, 2009, 04:14 PM »
I used to buy Jig em-up ice jigs from a sign maker in Rochester, New York.  I haven't been able to find any for a while, and I wondered if anyone on these boards knew where to get any, or who the manufacturer was/is.

I have been thinking about producing them myself if I can't find any, as they were very effective.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Many of us have been looking for them for a few years now. I would love to get my hands on a couple hundred if you find them or decide to make them.

Back in the 80's we used to catch alot of fish with those on Oneida. Oh and they still work....
H.T. use to sell them and they were called "bohemian rockers". My son recently found about 3 dozen at an old bait store and scarfed em up.

RG - he said he'd have some for you at the show...

should have known Rg would know, I do see them but they are all copper, no silver plate, they used to make them at kodak then they would take them to the plating building, my broyher used to hold the hooks for the guy while he soldered them. I do see them at the bayside boat and takle on I-bay.

I have a tackle manufacturer who I am working with presently, and if we get production going, I will let you folks know, if that doesn't violate any of the terms of use on this website.  I need to check into patent infringement and a few things like that I guess.

Thank you all for your information - I only have one chrome one left, and I am scared to use it!!!

There's been quite a few variations of this jig. I've seen many imitations with riveted hooks. The ones pictured are the true "Conesus" jig that I know. Kodak made their share of jigs for sure.

Many more were hand crafted from brass or copper drain pipe They are effective in certain waters.

Lonewolf that shiney one does not look like a orginal Jig em-up.  it's similar but not the same.

I was just talking to my dad about them.  from what my dad had heard the orginal maker of the Jig em-ups retired from Kodak, and had passed away.  But before he passed he sold the dies to someone who made them for a short while then he stopped making the Jigs.

it's a real bummer cause that shiny nickle one is such a productive jig.

Here's one that looks similar...called the prince of perch...might not be as heavy as the ones you guys are using...but I've got one at home and the fluttering action is fantastic...perch definitely seemed to smack the snot out of it when I had it under the ice last year.  Check out smackinjacklures.com

Best pic I could come up with from their website...the hook is hidden from view at this angle...it's at the narrow end of the jig, and runs through the bead.

The harder the better!

As far as I know HT only makes the painted jigs pictured.

The Conesus Jig and Oakleaf grubs used to be the best Perch killer going on Conesus Lake.

They were about all we ever used back in the 60's and 70's, on Conesus, Oneida and Silver Lakes.  Bait was usually mousies, but we also used oak leaf bugs and michigan wigglers from time to time - no limit on perch in those days, though we rarely wanted to keep more than 50 a day!! :o

I've received several PM's stating they cannot find the Bohemian Rocker Jig. The reason is they are new this season.
I contacted Fish307 and they are expecting to receive a shipment within two weeks. Jeff is allowing our members to pre order if you would like to. Send an e-mail to [email protected] stating the Bohemian Rocker Jig, how many, what colors,  your name and phone #. As soon as they are in they will contact you.

We used to get the Jig-Em-ups at App's on Onieda lake. The Conesus jig looked simular but had more rounded corners, you could buy them at "Bob's bait and tackle" :'( in Lakeville.

I bought a dozen of the Bohemian Rockers - I believe they are aluminum, which sucks when you are fishing in 50' of water as they take forever to get to bottom.  I also bent the hook 90 degrees pulling it out of the plastic bag!!  I don't believe those hooks would stand up to a decent day of icefishing - I am quite disappointed, but they do look similar.
