Any suggestions on a good brand of flip over style shanty?  I am looking at getting a new one for Xmas and don't know which one to pick from.

Do you have a sled or ATV? If you are hoofin it, it makes a big difference which shack you should choose.

Yukon, no question about it.  If you are on foot it is manageable and if you have a wheeler or snowmobile you are set.  I've fished in the Guide (now called the Nanook) and found it to be too small.  The Voyager is a great shack, but too big to be pulling by hand much.

I have a Voyager and I would not recommend pulling it by hand! ;D

I have both for early ice but then I drive out there with my truck.  I mainly fish leech but looking to get on a  couple lakes around the crookston area where i go to school.  The Nanook is the one that has my eye right now.  I normally fish by myself unless my roomate tags along.

I just upgraded to the Nanook.....Seats are a little cheesy.  But i really like it and if you mostly fish alone it will be perfect.  My $.02

Went to talk to the Clam Rep at Cabelas.....  He knew nothing about the products he relied solely on the catalog that he did not have.  Looks like i will just have to go looking around for them to look at and compare my self.

If you are pulling any distance or higher speeds with a snowmobile or ATV I would recommend the Otters.

If I were in the market for one to be pulled by hand or for short distance I would be looking at the Frabils.

I just wanted to know what would be the better investment the Nanook/Yukon for 2 men or another brand that would be comparable to a clam.

I recommend the Otters as well.  They are a little heavy to pull by hand, but a super product.  Great customer service as well.  Just down the road here in MN.

Weight wize id be looking at the nanook themrmal you only gain a few inchs on the yukon tc.. If you dont like the seats in the nanook you may up grade them if you would like to... If it was me doing the buying id go with the plain nanook hands down just for the simple reason i dont like draging any more weight then i have to.. Hope that helps you... Jon

Thanks Hard Ice I really appreciate the help.  I have been doing a little more research and found the Frabill Guardian has 'about' the same space and size as the Voyager but is cheaper and the same price at cabelas as the Yukon.  What are the thoughts on Frabill shantys?

What are the thoughts on Frabill shantys?

I have very little exposure to Frabill shacks.  I went with Clam because I fished out of my friend's and liked them.  I'd recommend taking a close look at both IN PERSON (not on the web) and go from there.  Hard Ice may be a bit biased, but he seems reputable enough to give a truthful answer.  As I said above I'd go with a Yukon.

I own a frabil it is two years old and you can already see the sun through the fabric. The new ones use a thicker fabric but next year I am going with a thermal clam.

Frabill Trekker Deluxe. $399 at GM! its got the comfy swivel seats, thick material, and it's light enough to pull by hand!
