Yet another good kokanee video, but ice fishing this time!  The problem I have when ice fishing for kokanee is that they rarely really chomp on a lure.  They just nip at it.  If the kokanee are in the top 6-10 feet of water, you can sight fish for them in a dark shelter.  When they nip at the bait, you set the hook, or try to set the hook.  On Georgetown Lake in Montana, where there is no limit on kokanee, in past years I frequently got 50-80 kokanee a day while sight fishing, and 30-40 was an average day.  But when they are down out of sight, I have difficulty catching them, because their bite is so light.  On a day of kokanee fishing, only a couple fish will actually hit the lure.  They just nudge and nip at lures.

This year for some reason we are catching very low numbers of kokanee at Georgetown Lake.  We are seeing less kokanee, and the fish aren't nipping at lures very much.  I hope the fishing will be better again in future years.
