Flags a Go Go
« on: Feb 18, 2018, 06:39 PM »
Well I decided since 2 of my fishing buddies had never been to moosehead before what better way to get started than to plan an unexpected trip last minute. We decided to leave friday night at 1 am and head up to rockwood and get the traps in before sunup.  Since the bait shops dont open to early up there I knew I needed some fresh live smelts from someone down this way.  Luckily for me sebago bait was open till 6 and I remembered they packed them in oxygen, so hey lets give it a whirl. By the time we got there we hadn't even lost one, thanks again sebago bait for some great smelts. The sun wasn't up yet and decided to head out, it was real cold and I think it felt colder because it had been so warm down here the last couple of days. There was 6" of snow or so on the lake which wasn't the best for walking since we were all on foot.  We walked as long as we could in the dark and decided to set up. Luckily for us it paid off, nothing big but we ended up landing 4 salmon overall and had 11 other flags. We fished till 5:30 and once that sun went down man o man back to artic temps again. We hiked back to the truck in the dark again this time all in smiles hoped in the truck and drove back to grey and got home just in time to see the snow start to fly down here and in bed by 11:30.  All in all a great trip but pretty exhausted not getting any zzzz's. Needless to say I slept the day away today except to wake up than shovel the driveway for a quick couple hours than back out again. Resting up this week getting ready for next weeks tourney...

Those day trips are fun and you sure do sleep well the night after.

Thanks for sharing. I "offered" the same kind of trip for this Friday to a buddy and he is not up for a road trip , he really doesn't know what he's missing. Maybe I'll do a solo

When I was young & working  the different shifts, I used to take off on those crazy, last minute trips.

That's what it's all about. In years to come, it will be a "remember when" topic. ;D

Great post, that's a road trip!
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.
