that's some pretty solid information... do you fish roughly the same water or do you try different bays and lakes

Trap...you read my mind.  Glo/orange Caty jig tipped with a Gulp 1" minnow, cricket or fish fry.  The gills love the orange ff.

I've had great success with a clam drop jig size 10 color gold tipped with 3 spikes for the big gills or with a small rosy red minnow for the jumbo perch.  For me the smaller tungsten jigs like size 12 and 14 with all types of bright colors only produced dinks.

I have found white to be the best for me when it comes to gills and perch. Don't get to target crappies much but I have had them come on random colors lol
That's a Bluegill, no that's a Sunfish...I've heard it both ways!!

i do good with crappies around inlets and cattails at this [late ice] time of the year on the NORTH SHORE if possible,it is warmer
jig colors red/green. remember all this sun [high] gets the  plankton ,bait fish and crappies moving,i hand drill and wait for about
about 20 mins to fish[noise]
hope this helps

i find that the dinks and larger ones MOST times times are in different parts of the water column, but that could be
the waters i fish, one they were mixed at 23ft on bottom and i was using larger jigs and was getting both dinks and
big ones

I've observed that on a bright, sunny day near the end of the season, perch like small, black jigs tipped with waxies or maggots. Now this probably depends on the amount of snow on the ice. As you may know, the more snow, the less sunlight gets through the ice. They also seem to like water that is 8-15 feet deep. Hopefully this helps some people ice some nice perch. This seems to be about the same for crappie and bluegill. Never had luck with any bass or anything.

your RIGHT,i have talked to several biologist and been told that some fish eyes[ganglion cells] are  more receptive to contrasts
in color, like your BLACK jig with a WHITE waxworm that is big contrast

I don't use jigs often anymore but I remember fishing a small river in massachusetts one day and when I had a red jig I would catch nothing but perch.  When I switched it to black(exact same jig, just different color), all I would catch were bluegills.  I was casting in the same spots and jigging the same way.   Pretty cool to see your post agree with my experiences.

I like jigs in the size 6 mm wide and 16 mm long with hook size 8 or 10
this size is just about the size of the greeneyed dragonfly larva which
the perch love, but all waters do not have them[looks like a roach]
