I have three, Nils, Mora and a strikemaster gas. When I first got my Nils, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I had numerous problems with the cutting blades. Ordered two replacements and they don't cut anything like the original. Think the lazer is probably the best hand unit. :icefish: :icefish: :icefish:

The bass pro 6 inch cuts fast and you can get it for little more than a set of blades
With it I can drill 10 inches of hard black ice in as many cranks. Very happy with it for money spent
Only suggestion is that you locktite the screws for the blades. Think I got mine for 39.99 or 45

Normark FIN BORE III!  Normark FIN BORE III! Normark FIN  BORE III! - Fast, Lightweight, About $110, Offset handles (like Nils) where you use both hands to drill rather than one to press down and other to turn drill, Swedish blades stay sharp (same as Strikemaster Lazer - on my 4th hard season with no resharpening and hundreds and hundreds of holes cut) and easily sharpened or replaced for about $30.    Just not that many people know what they are missing in the US!   Tough to find in the US, but some places do sell them, easily found just across the border in Canada at Canadian Tire.

Love my Lazer. Sometimes I wish I had an 8" hole though. But so far couldn't be happier.

Dynamite cuts a pretty big hole faster than any power auger! The entertainment value is pretty high too!

Fin Bore or Nils. Whichever you can afford. There's advantages to the Fin Bore in that you can readily find replacement blades on a trade in at a lot of shops. The Nils heads will last way longer and cut faster, but they're expensive to replace and have sharpened. Both make Lazer and Mora augers look like a waste of time. Never buy an auger without offset handles.

If you're not coordinated enough to use offset handles, buy a gas auger.

I've owned 2 Fin Bore augers and just bought a nils 6". My Fin Bore is a 4" which I use most of the time. Takes 10 seconds to cut 10" of ice with no effort at all.  I use the 6" for tip downs and tip ups. It's just silly how fast and effortlessly the Nils cuts.

By the way, I have a 6" HT lazer style auger as well. Anyone need an anchor?

No question whatsoever that the Nils cuts the best  ;)

I ruined my shoulder cutting through 18 inches of ice with an 8 inch mora …. and it has hurt me ever since especially when using an auger.

The Nils requires NO downward pressure …..  literally none  …..  so for anyone with shoulder / rotator cuff issues there is no better auger.

Mine has the setup to use with an 18V drill ……   i have found it easier to use manually than screw around with the drill, batteries etc ….  i can literally drill a hole with two fingers from each hand on the handle.

Received an 8" nills as a gift last year and could not believe how much easier it cut than my old 6" mora. Don't think I would ever need a gas auger for the thick stuff. It cuts that easy.

Just a quick comparison that I made up of engineering design and geometry in very popular ice augers and why some are more efficient than others.   This is something that most ice fisherman don't understand and have never compared as to how this correlates to efficiency in cutting through the ice.

My opinion, Fin Bore III wins when one considers overall design, weight, cost, efficiency, sharpness as well as ease and cost of sharpening or replacing blades.

I had a Fin Bore (for sale now  :o) before i bought the Nils.

There is no comparison ......  the Fin Bore requires a great deal of downward pressure and the Nils requires none.
