for otisco the statewide regulations apply which is the first sat. in may till march 15 except for the length which has to be 36" can keep 1... and greenwood lake is for muskie all year and 36" can keep 1.... the statewide rules for muskie are third saturday in june till nov. 30 (same as bass season) and can keep 1.... the reason greenwood is all year is because it is a border water and special regulations apply

Also musky are not like bass you can not target them in the off season. If you catch one it must be released immediately (that means no picture taking) they are probably the most protected fish in the state so good luck not getting arrested if you do go for them. If I see a picture of a musky through the ice I report it to dec immediately

so you are saying the tiger muskie I caught in Otisco Lake last year on was illegal? because the book states that the season is "1st saturday in may through march 15".... and the book says "All year" for greenwood lake as well so unless you know what lake it is from and know that the season is actually closed you are waisting their time and our money on something worthless.... Seems to me someone needs to take a look at the fishing regulations book and catch up on when the seasons actually are.

I'm pretty sure there are different regs for muskies and tiger muskies

for the body of water I fish for muskies which is greenwood lake

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/31421.html

that is only statewide you need to look at the specific body of water you are fishing

Tigers are open same as walleye I was talking pure strain musky, They really stress in the winter and catching one is usually a death sentence (big pure strain musky)

Yes regs differ from true bloods and hybrids. If you want tigers, otisco is the place. I have a camp there. Pm me if and when your around and could prob put you on some.

lol, people always insert foot in mouth cause they wont take the time to actually look at regs. Everybody was like, uh, hey body you cant keep bass now when i put a pic of one up. Lol if they had just payed attention and seen i caught it in Honeoye which is a finger lake they wouldn't have wasted their breath. Read people read, only takes a minute and its not like somebody is holding a gun to your head to do it :P
That's a Bluegill, no that's a Sunfish...I've heard it both ways!!

Who honestly threatens to call the DEC bc someone snapped a picture or a fish?  That's one of the best parts if catch and release.  My buddy caught a 5' sturgeon on Erie about 6 years back and DEC was hall he took a picture so they could log it. Someone needs a better hobby :-p

The only place in New York I know you can fish for pure bred Muskellunge all year is Lake Champlain! You can use 15 tip-ups  and keep one over 30" per day.  Good luck, J.

greenwood lake is another lake where you can fish for pure bred muskellunge all year but it has to be 36" instead of 30

:roflmao: Wait don't call then I will have to explain how it was taken legally and then proceed to tell them that it is at the taxidermist so they need to wait till I get it back to see it. Then I will go on to tell them that if it was out of season I wouldn't have spent the 60+ minutes battling that fish
