Question about possessing jig poles?
« on: Jan 24, 2010, 06:51 AM »
Can you carry as many jig poles on you as you want, so long as only 2 lines are in the water at a time?  The other day, someone told me you can only carry 2 poles with you, regardless of how many you're fishing.  Is this true?  If it is, I've definitely bent the rules on occasion!  haha   Oddly enough, DEP has never said anything to me about it...

A pro bass fisherman would be lost with less than 30 poles on board.

I thought so.  I routinely carry 3 poles with me and 5 tip ups with many tip up spools rigged with different # test and setups for varied conditions.  I found it surprising that someone would say that.  Possibly I misunderstood?  Not sure.  Point being: I have never been hassled by dec for this and am glad I never will be.  It's a pain switching jigs all the time: much better having a few rigs set up so you don't have to get your hands cold!

I carry 4 to 6 jigging rods ,5 tip -downs and 7 to 9 tip-ups at any one time and will be expanding the tip-up to about 12 after this season ( 5 set just for toothy critters and 5 for eyes and jumbos wit a few extras for the friends )

On any given trip I have 7-10 tipups and 3-4 jiggin poles.
I have them rigged for different baits, fish or other variables.
As long as you have the legal number of lines in the water you are a legal eagle.

Not to mention what happens if a piece of gear breaks on the ice? It is always nice to have an extra setup or two all rigged and ready to fish. When the bite is on who wants to be down a line?

Don't forget the rattle reels and tip downs for when the pike don't like the tip ups..  I carry about 17 devices (10 tip ups, 2 tip downs 3 jiggers and 2 rattlers) been checked many times never been an issue.  It's what is in the water.

Pole-rod debate, poles are stuff like cane poles ya' know like for springtime panfishin'.  Rods have eyes and reels.

You can carry as many rods as you want.. otherwise bass fishermen would be getting a lot of tickets ;)
