Thinking about heading to Waterbury...
« on: Feb 27, 2016, 12:02 PM »
Any info on the ice conditions down there?
Also, is there a local bait shop around?

Never fished this reservoir before, any insight would be much appreciated!

The Stowe fly rod shop is just up the road in Stowe. Ice before the storm was 15", so I'm sure it's still okay, but would be very careful on the edges as they are letting the water out.

Bet that road was flowing like a river during the rain. Hopefully that water either runs off or freezes rather than eating the ice under it.
May the fish be with you.

I am hoping to go for smelt there on Wednesday after work, if it's not pouring again. I would appreciate any updates on the ice and road condition. I have always gone to blush hill, does anyone have luck with smelt by the dam?

You won't be able to drive up there, you could get up there with a wheeler with chains or a snowmobile.
State doesn't take care of the road anymore.

Is the gate closed? Seems like we haven't had any snow in about 11 months...

Theres snow not a lot but there's snow.
People fish up there, that's probably where the big trout are being caught.

So I was up there on Friday after the storm.
The road is sanded to the dam.the upper road was not.
It is quite steep.but I drove up it in my ford cmax.
Front wheel drive car.it has good snows.not sure
I would have done it after the snow we just had.
One other truck up there.if you have a 4x4 I think
You could get up there handily. less walk to the ice
Than the Waterbury town side.

Made it out today! Was really warm and luckily a kind gentleman lent us his ladder to get on!
Getting off was more of a challenge ;D (got a little wet)
Only got one perch with 20 tip ups! haha at least it tasted good!
