heres my version of a perch tip-down. it works very good to, i will usally set this up when im fishing whitefish and the jig for the witeies in a hole nerby.

it is just a old bottom bouncer of walleyes, stretched out and the affixied to some sort of a shaft. hockey sticks work, in this one i used a 1" wide by 1/2" thick piece of pine.

i painted the tip yellow then put a glow paint over top.

and yes i no i need to fishing grouting the tile in my fishin room lol

Heres A Rod Tip Down I Made Last Season. Caught Some Huge Pike On It.

Side Profile:

Front Profile:

Rod Holder:

Flag Tripper ( On Ice, Use Split Ring Between Pipe Cleaner And Wood, Free Floating On Line):

Tripped:

This Set Up Works Flawlessly For How Cheesy It Looks. When The Fish Hits, It Pulls the Split Ring Forward, Removing The Pipe Cleaner From The Drilled Hole, Sending The Flag Flying! Drag Is Set Semi Light, So Fish Can Take Line With Ease.

Once Fish Is Landed, Hold The Split Ring Between Fingers, Drop Lure, Then Reset.
Home Lake(s): Big Doe Lake, Skeleton, Buck & Bernard

Anyone Got Any Tips For A Rookie Nipissing Angler, Hoping To Fish It This Season For The 1st time??

Fish attractor/chum ball

Get a small, about 18 inch long, mini gang troll (Mini colorado or willow leaf blades). If it comes with a rudder take it off.
Attach a 2 or 3 inch stainless steel mesh tea ball to the bottom of the troll. (Tea ball is the type to brew loose tea leaves and found at your local cooking store). Oh! replace the single wire rings on the ball with split rings or you'll loose the ball when jigging it.
Run a small diameter wire or line thru the bottom hinge on the ball and below that (about 2-3 inches) hang a small weight.
Add your favorite fishing scent mixed with oatmeal into the ball and lightly reset the locking arm.
Send the rig down one hole and jig it up and down (bouncing the weight on the bottom helps also) to make the blades fluter and make the ball scent the hole. Fish another hole about 8-10 away or put the rig in the middle of a set of tip-ups.
At any depth you see fish on your finder you can release the chum mix by giving a sharpe tug on the rig to open the ball at that depth.

Here is my homemade sled. I will post a pic once the paint is dry and everything is loaded down.

The hooks on the side are with I am going to hang my auger from and then the shanty fits in between the poles coming up and I made a box to fit ontop of that to hold all of my poles, bait, and other goodies.
You never know what you've had until you've lost it.

skimmer, gaff, old gaff/ skimmer(on bucket-too dangerous)and measuring stick.

tip-up/ fish carrier and hole cover for deadsticking.

deadstick rod holder that sets hook i made in 1998. before i saw the slammer years later.

rod holder for deadsticking that doesn't count as a tip-up. and broken down.

either one works great, and cost a few buck to make, unless you have a source for the PVC and cement. ;D

More of a modification than invention really, but worth posting. Homemade tip-up lights. Inspired while doing some reorganizing at work.

Take one Polar Original Tip-up, add one Ford keyless entry fob, a mercury hood switch for a remote car starter, and toss in a blue LED and some thin wire.

The LED is at the tip of the mast, with the wire running down to the mercury switch, which is zip tied to the top of the spring. Below that is the Ford remote secured to the tip-up body. I modified the traces only use the lock button (my power switch), battery, and leads out to the mrecury switch and led. I didn't make just one either, i wound up with 5 or 6 of them.

I did use them once. They worked pretty good if you had them aimed back at you. And no problem distiguishing them from a friend's red clip-ons. Obviously a little prep work involved, and zip-tying something to the lock button to turn them on was a bit crude. But it was one of those weird projects that i had to do. Beats staring at the TV any day !

Thanks Mike ! I got another bigger, goofier project coming soon, ;)

Jay, i work at a facility that installs remote starters. It's a switch we mount to the hood that prevents anyone from remotely starting the car with the hood up. We order them by the 100's from a supplier in NH i think. Check with a local installer, they'll probably sell you some for a buck or two each.

Thanks mud. They're in a plastic bag in a drawer somewhere. Want a couple ?  ;D

When CT Outfitters switches over to winter inventory, i'm going to get clip on jingle bells and regular lights like a normal person.

I still got the bug to put those same LED's you picked up last week in my Recon. That's an October or November project after i finish another ice fishing project currently underway.
