Very nice! I like the white tub idea...reflects light better and easier to see "things" that may have been dropped. Did you paint it or manufactured that way?

i painted it with flex seal...other people recommend it but flex seal sucks for this. It chips and flakes - use Rustoleum ultra cover 2x instead

No pics yet but in the process of a few mods of FX 50 windbreak:

1) Moved the bench from the front to the rear for a shelf...perfect for heater.

2) Placed small triangle canvas chair where bench was, off-set to one side. Sitting further into shanty for added protection from elements.

3) Put shanty cover over top to help retain heat.

4) Used chair carry bag for drill/auger...fits nicely inside shack

5) Plenty of room for bucket w/ poles "attached" and locator.

6) Everything incl. shanty still less than 60#

7) Smitty Sled complete in about a week.

The shelf (bench seat) is attached 5" from back of tub putting front edge 1' from back of chair and 1.5" below top edge of tub. I used 1X2" cedar boards as "mounts" for shelf using 1.5" #10 machine screws to secure. Space enough around the area of shelf to place heater so as not to come in contact with anything. I won't put it directly behind chair though  :o I like this "3/4" shanty because it is light and don't really like to be closed up tight. Not because of claustrophobia or anything...just like to look outside.

Nice, I might do that to mine. I took it with me today but never took it out of the car. I found 4" of ice but forgot my Cleats and it was a clear ice day no snow on top. I did drill 2 holes to verify the thickness. I also found 2" on another lake also. I should be on the ice next week sometime.

Thanks! Just put them on so they are yet to be tested in the snow. Held up well dragging it around the grass so far.

That is very cool. How did you work the cross bar to keep it up?

Got them on amazon. Just search lift hinges or coffee table hinges. Around $15 a pair.

Do the hinges lock in the up position? Any chance they may drop the sled?

It is very sturdy in the up position but i wouldlnt recommend sitting on it while raised. I havent got to test it much yet so i dont really know how durable it will prove to be over time. Im most worried about how the metal holds up to the elements.

How difficult is it to raise the tub up from the lowered position, have you tried it with the tub full of your gear?

Very easy to raise. I just lift one side pop the ski down and then do the other.

This link was sent to me on IJO. What an awesome idea! Are you concerned about wind coming under the sled with those brackets off the ice a little ways/ have you had a chance to sit in it to see how well the brackets will hold up even with it in the down position?

Thanks!

Its very stable in the down position, doesnt move around at all. As long as there is some snow on the ice the wind shouldnt be able to get under it. Only sits about 1/2 an inch above a flat surface.

You stole my design. I did the same thing with wooden legs several years ago. I posted pics of it here a long time ago. But I like the use of the hinges you have better.

I was planning on adding a full length flip-up shelf inside my Eskimo Quick Flip II. I started building it this weekend and it just won't fit. I need about a 15" wide shelf to hold my Eagle Claw hard case and still be able to open the lid so it doesn't fall closed. That 15" killed my idea. Now I'm looking for a way to make a shelf that hangs from the furthest most cross bar(on the back wall when flipped). I just don't like having to reach over my seat and to the floor to get to my rods. But if it were a bit higher it might be easier to get to the case.  Right now I just lay the case on the ice.
