Waiting for Ice

This year seems to be like some other ones as a mild fall, seems like we did not have the cold like we had last year to get things going, been warm to me this November but remember years like this one in the past, just a waiting game now.

Definitely going to be a great season. Hopefully we will get a good snow pack in the hills this year. How is Boysen’s water level these days?

Boysen is still full, down a bit but fuller than last year so far. Ocean is looking good and pilot butte they are digging the outlet to the canal out and had it low for a long time so might be hard fishing this year or really good if they keep it low.  Looks like around the first of December is our good chance to get things to start to firm up to walk on water.

16 degrees yesterday morning when I woke up to go to work.

11 degrees this morning with a low of 6 at the coldest spot on the way to work.

Looks like the whole state got a bit of a cold snap! Bodes well for ice fishing somewhere on thanksgiving weekend!

I could stand to fish out of the boat all winter.    Pounds in the NE corner are starting to freeze. KH was 44 degrees on Sunday.

Whats the latest anyones first ice spot has froze over your ice fishing life?  Ive been ice fishing for five seasons now and this looks like it will be the latest ice around the laramie area i have seen since i started.  We might not get good ice till second week of december the way the forecast looks right now.

Have some ice on the water on the pool cover today. Been getting colder just not good enough to get ice on the lakes yet, looks like mid December around here for ice.

Since I bought a used boat this spring I'm not nearly as anxious for ice fishing as in past years, even though I like ice fishing just as much as open water. Some areas of Big Horn reservoir had a water temp of 38 degrees on Friday so it is starting to cool down.

Lake John near Walden is reporting some ice...anxious for safe ice - any hope near Laramie yet?

Latest I've been on the ice at KH was 12/21 back in the 90's. We had the boat out again on 12/24 and the lake was ice covered. I've seen Lake Desmet not get safe ice until January a couple times.

So far I've had better luck finding my golf balls in the leaves than ice on the ponds

Well the temp dropped all day got the minnow tank set now to get all the paper work going for ordering in minnows then get to chasing these things around.

Was on KH Saturday. 30 degree air temperature, wind was 20 to 30 MPH. Fish was very good. Water was 37 Degrees. Should be solid soon with 5 degrees last night.

And the wait is over just now for it to build some more and cover other lakes over and build for the derbies coming up.
