Pymatuning
« on: Feb 01, 2019, 10:08 AM »
Anyone been to Pymatuning yet this year? My old man and I are planning to head up there tomorrow.  Saw the reports saying that Tuttle was a good starting point, but was also thinking of hitting the creek channel off of the Manning launch.

Thanks guys!

Is the tournament all over the lake tomorrow or just off shelter 4? Also where is shelter 4, can’t find on the park map?
Thinking about trying off the Jamestown Beach. Not sure how the ice is out there so any nearby observerstions welcomed.

Jamestown end is pretty easy to fish. Since you can't walk far.  Plenty of places to get on and off and deep water is close to shore.  Some places are less than 100 feet from shore.

Fished yesterday at Jamestown only one out.  Fished there Saturday and ice was a good 12". Yesterday best I could find was 6 1/2". Is is going fast.  Couldn't get close to my old holes ice was really thin.  2 hits with spud bar and it went through.  Had to avoid areas where there was a lot of holes drilled from the weekend.  Places where it was white was soft.  When you walked you could see water movement in the old holes.

Same what I found yesterday, drain hole and ice was shot around old holes...be careful out there

What makes it worse are those people who think they need those large 10" holes, WHY?

Your not catching fish so big that you need holes that big.  With holes that big when we have these mid winter warm ups it just makes a situation where someone could go though.  It is even worse where you have these weekend cities pop up.  Too many holes in a small area and not enough caution by people going out because hey the ice should be ok because we were there last weekend and the ice was good.

If you go now you better take the same precautions that you that took  at first ice or be prepared to do so swimming.

The older I get the more cautious I get.

I can not imagine the ice being good. I was out Tuesday all day and from morning till dark we lost 3". Bringing it down to down to 6" where I was. With the rain and 50 deg I would be surprised there isn't a lot of open water.

I was up on the south end today by the livery. I checked ice by shore and a lot of  places I could punch through with one hit with the spud. I was on it Tuesday  and really wasn't comfortable with what I saw then.  Finally fished off docks today. Ice around them was maybe 4" and most all of that was rotten. Caught a few small gills was it for me today.
