oh those are good perch for there.  seems like all the perch we catch there are in the 4-6" range.  how thick is the ice?  at least a few salmon are starting to be caught.

??? how thick is the ice.  where are people accessing, is any one driving on the ice? what is the best time of day to fish for the silvers or the perch? would like to try it.

Post by: Aaron072 on Jan 13, 2010, 12:03 AM
ice is ten inches i've been putting in at the statepark and taking snowmobiles out i've only seen one toyota truck out there.
best time for perch is early morning but you can catch them all day
kokes is best at night 8 to 12 in my opinion and most people are driving around the lake to plum creek campground and walking out from there

went out last night there was about twelve of us fished from dark to 12:00 only 5 salmon caught.
still 9-10 inches of ice but 2 inches of water on top and the augers are just cutting right through the ice with no resistance not good
lots of perch but only one over 9 inches
hope it gets cold.

Paying back 80%( other 20% going to charity) of the pot, 40% for biggest 3 perch, 20% for biggest Kokanee, 20% for poker hand.

More details at Snappy Sport Senter of LMR Lodge and resort.  You can enter anytime up to the day of the event.  Come on out for this one.  We will have a warming fire, and a buffet will be available.

If the Perch Assault tournaments are not your cup of tea, maybe this one will rock your world!! ;D

WhitefishMT,

Yup that was me.  I was fishing my second waypoint, you guys were right where I wanted to be ;D  Your secret is safe with me...I am not one to horn in on anyone, I saw you guys pull what looked like a couple nicer ones out though.  I went over into the weedbeds and caught fish out of every hole I drilled, just couldnt find anything bigger than a 9".  That spot will continue to profuce better and better fish thru the ice off.

You guys should come and fish the Winter Fun Fest on the 13th, you can sign up the morning of and probably stand a good chance if that spot produces.

Mike

My boy was saying that he thought that it looked like you were going to park right between us and we had your spot.
We kind of laughed as we have gone out on the ice and sure enough there is some one right where you want to be.
A friend had gotten some bigger ones Friday straight in about 25-30 Yards from where we were.
We watched you go in closer to shore but didn't see anything big come up.
We have fished that almost same exact spot for 10 years.
We also have hit the Snappys derby for as long as I can remember.

We had almost 150 people come out.  Not bad for a first tournament of its type.  The poker hand was worth $275 (5 high straight) as was the big Kokanee(.83).  $367 was split up for the top 3 perch.  We raised about 250 pounds of food for the Westshore Food bank and about 60 pounds of unwanted perch went to a lady who is recovering/healing 5 bald and 2 golden eagles.  All in all a successful tournament by all counts.

The Kokanee fishing was the hottest after about 2:30 PM until dark, on the west end of the big hump. But you didn't hear that from me ;)

took the little guy back out last night but he was having an off night complaining the whole time we were there so we were gone by 9:00 and then he put his hole leg in the hole.
We didn't have any luck partially because of him throwing fits but the guy next to us had quite a few on the ice

Moved out east of the island around 1100 in 33 FOW.  Caught 4 nice 12-13" kokes but as soon as that happened the perch moved in...Had them from 10 feet under all the way to the bottom and stayed like that until 2:00 PM!  The Vex was a red blob all day long, but the biggest fish was 10".  I was gonna move out to where you ended up, but couldnt motivate to pack up and move...

If I dont go to Spokane Sat, me and Cindy will probably go to LMR Fri night and rent a cabin for the last couple days of Salmon season.  Got to get at least one night of salmon fishing in!  But I BEST be going to Spokane to pick up the baot, and a test run on Couer d" alene lake before hauling it back here.

They have that pond hockey tournament Saturday at the lodge, might be worth watching!

This has been asked before I am sure but in the last few days what time has the bite been starting in the afternoon/evening and how late has it been going? Also has it been perch or salmon? Or both? AND is Tuffet still the area to fish? Anything been going off of the public ramp? and last but not least... What has been working to catch salmon and or perch. I have not fished down at LMR this winter so any help would be appreciated.

Going to go out tomorrow afternoon and try my luck...

I went out to LMR yesterday off the state park.  I moved around a lot but never could catch a perch. The only place I was getting bites was off the weed point to the right.  There are a bunch of holes out in about 15 feet of water(100 yrds from the weeds).  I only had a few maggots and those little perch stole each of them one by one.  After i ran out of magots I didn't get a bite.  I was there from 12-4:30.  The ice is awsome not slushy at all and thick.  I would try another spot than the state camp gound.  I talked to another guy who said he hadn't caught any either.  Just little bites. With the sun out it was a perfect day to get sk&$#d.

Title: Re: Lake mary ronan
Post by: MT Hank on Feb 24, 2010, 11:48 AM
Got out to LMR yesterday (Tuesday) about 1:00 PM. Good ice (16 inches), the water that was on top of the ice has froze and the lake is rutted in places. Fished right off of tuffit in 18 fow, did not graph any salmon but the bottom was alive on the Vex, soooo. I went to the bottom with a glow swedish pimple and the color of the jig did not mater. Green/Pink/Yellow/White... All caught perch.

Moved to just off the state ramp in 32 fow and about 5 PM the salmon marking on the Vex started but would not bite. The bottom came alive once again about 5:30 pm on the Vex and the bite started again, bigger perch... Two were 11 inches, a couple more at 10 and on down to 7 inches. Had not planed on staying after dark and did not bring any lights so I had to leave when I could not see my rod tip. The perch were hitting on a dead stick so I had to be able to see. A good afternoon.

No I went for salmon but was not seeing anything suspended on the Vex, and I saw things (perch) on the bottom and figured what to heck. I would really like to get some salmon but thats not going to happen at LMR this winter. I only get out on Tue. or Wed.  Work gets in the way of the fun things. BTW the big perch were  just under 10" not 11 as I reported, I think the fisherman thing kicked in and you know that "this is 6 inch" thing that us men have.  ;D

I fished LMR yesterday afternoon (1:00 ~ 6:30). Still very good ice up to 18 inches and rutted but everything on top is froze, one guy was driving a truck out on the lake  :o. Overcast with the sun trying to show at times and "NO WIND".

I caught a few "FAT" perch 7 to 9 inches but it was a tough bite. I tried anywhere from 15 to 35 fow, 35 seemed to be the choice. They were showing on the Vex right on the bottom and at times 2 feet solid off the bottom but I could not get them to bite on maggots (pink or white) I switched jigs and pimples numerous times and I had some mousies with me I had bought a couple of months ago and never used. That is what I finally started catching them on and only one pimple/jig combination, I could not get any othere combination to work and only had enough for one setup. After catching a couple on mousies the bite quit so I switched to perch eye's, caught a couple then it quit again so I switch back to mousies and caught a couple more, so then back to eye's, and, and, and.

The only fish you can legally target is perch.  The lake is open, but the season is closed for everything except yellow perch.
