I just purchased a new to me (1 season old) Vexilar Fl-8se Genz pack for a really good deal. I know it isn't a fancy unit by any means but it's going to give me enough to make my time on the ice much more enjoyable. Hardwater season is over here in Iowa, but I can't wait till next season! I finally feel like I'm set up now!

I found that Walmart had the best price on the digital battery and depth unit. When I got mine at the beginning of this season.

Personally I think the soft cases kind of suck a lot! IMHO  I transport mine in a short ? gal bucket with a lid. Not sure of the gallons but probably 3 gallon bucket. Protects it during transport and then pull it out and use it all day. When done back in the bucket with lid on and off I go.

I use a bucket for my FL8SE, I just bought a FLX28 with the case and don't care for it. That also went into the bucket!

you will be able to tell what type of fish are down there if you get really good with it. And best of all....made in the USA
