using a vexilar
« on: Nov 07, 2005, 02:25 PM »
I'm new to the sport and new to the forums.

Just wondering if you guys know of any good online sources for learning how to effectively use a vex.  I plan on targeting walleyes mostly, but they can be really hard to find here in Ohio, and even harder to find a hot bite.  I hope a vex will help me locate them, or at least areas that will likely hold them.

Any pointers for a newbie.

Vex won't help unless you know the lake you are fishing. I would suggest a good hydrographic map of the lake you want to fish. After that the Vex will help.

First like was said you need to find likely spots using a map or info from other anglers, DNR, Bait shops...

Use info gathered plus current weather info, time of year, info you have learned from books and periodicals...to decide where to start on lake.

Then the Vex will help locate fish on the lake. Punch some holes, use Vex to look, drop a line. If you catch fish look for similar spot and repeat. If you don't catch fish move to new spot and try again.

You can't just point any type of electronics at a lake like a divining rod.
