What do you carry with your ATV?
« on: Aug 25, 2012, 05:39 PM »
I have a Otter Monster box on the rear of my ATV. It has a ton of storage. A few things I would like to carry with me are, a can of starting fluid, can of fix a flat,  a tow strap, small first aid kit, small tool box with extra spark plug. Is there anything iam missing ?

I have pretty much the same as you. one thing I'm going to start carrying is a tire plug kit. comes with plugs, tools and even a tiny compressor that plugs into a cigarette outlet. learned this the hard way...

Hey bull, what box do you have. I have the medium monster. did you partition it off or do you just load it up the way it is.

Medium Box. Just loaded it up with bungees on the inside. Where did you get that kit from? Did you partition yours off?

Small tool kit, extra plug, and ratchet straps. I filled my tires with Slime 4 years ago and have not had a low tire since.

The most important things you are missing is a snatch block and ice anchor . You gotta have them incase you happen to get stuck in slush or what ever .

A compact shovel would be a help also, along with a couple clevises of the proper size!! ;D

bought mine at a local fleet & farm. I bought the auger carrier for it also. I have not used the box yet. I bought it towards the end of season.

I keep most of my stuff in a small pack always ready to go.  I forgot a bottle of water, granola bars, lighter and a knife.  This stuff goes in the Rhino whether I am hunting or fishing.

I will not be nasty but I don't take much of any thing for my ATV but I do take a lot for icefishing. Just the tool kit that came with it. I always carry a good length of rope. Jerry

Same here Jerry. Just the factory tool kit with a snatch block. I DO like the ice anchor idea though!

A work light you can get the little LED lights with the hooks on them at any auto parts store.
Mine doubles as a light for the shack.
2X on the plug kit fixaflat won't fix a hole in the tire just a small leak but it will inflate the tire after you get a plug in it.

I don't have a ATV, but on the snowmobile I always carry a tow strap, tool kit, spare drive belt, spark plugs for the sled and auger, first aid kit/survival kit, light, throw bag and additional general repair kit which includes Duk Tape!

Might be a dumb question but what is this snatch block that a few of you have mentioned? When I go out I only have the tools that came with the wheeler and load it down with ice fishing gear.

A snatch block is basically a pully that you can attach to an anchor and use a winch or tow strap to pull an object towards the snatch block, not the winch or tow vehicle.

It is often the case that a straight tow or winch pull won't work.  A snatch block can save you in such a situation.

and when you mount the snatch block to your anchor, you double the pulling force of your winch....you create a 2:1 ratio

Ya'll need to be riding an ATC instead of an ATV... I just bring a small tool kit, small tow rope and I'm good to go. I have run flats on both of my honda's, I have never had to winch or shovel out when stuck, just get off and pick it up and move it to the side. It may be a bit more physical riding but with mud lites and tire chains on the back I go more places than my brothers polaris 500 sportsman with mud lites will go. But I'm a three wheeler guy and if its gonna have 4 wheels it will be a polaris ranger.  Oh and both my 3 wheelers float and drive them across deep water regularly all summer.  ;D

i carry GPS,tire chains, 2 tow straps, couple clevises, reciver hitch, misc wires and fuses, a few handtools, headlamp, clam snow shovel, and my ice anchor minimum, for the anchor i took a piece of 2" angle iron 18" mabyee with a chain welded to the middle of it with a rope tied to one end if i get stuck on the ice just drill a hole drop it in winch out the pull on the rope to lift it out. Ive heard u can just use a 2x4 though
