Finnie,  If I were you.... driving up from South of Boston...take 93north and instead of 2 hours and fishing The Retreat Meadows drive an extra hour and go to the lakes in the north with Northerns if that's what your targeting.  Just saying...I grew up within walking distance of the Meadows and that place can really be hit or miss.  I've seen 40"  20lb  + pike from Brattleboro but that was with many many hours between flags.  My experience is pretty dated though, having last fished there in the mid to late 90's.  Now I just play ice hockey on the Retreat! Also consider the NH side of the river in Hinsdale ...we used to call it the "Power lines"  Had a nice mixed bag of fish with Northerns.   If you can get up to lakes like Magog, Carmi, or Champlain you may have better luck especially later in the season.

me and my two boys were out on the meadows today from 8am to 4pm . caught a dozen good perch and 14 pike not much for size all between 18 and24 inches. was a blast. edges were spooky just walk the planks. tomorrow they might be tight. should be good tomorrow as long as the wind is down. got things to do tomorrow or we would go again. no pics dead battery or frozen. good luck

I know where the setbacks are. Where exactly is the Retreat Meadows site? Won't the issue with skaters subside with some snow cover?

Fished the setback near cersasimo on saturday... had quite a crew out with a lot of tipups, caught a lot of pike with the largest being around 26 inches, a bunch of perch, a few pickerel and one mud puppy to end the day... edges were definately soft, but i imagine they are a lot better now.
