safety 1st never go one ice without them. also another safety feature is a lifejacket

Thanks a million for posting that video Mike.
With everything that has happened this week, I think that it is important to take a minute out of our lives and watch this short video.
I have a real hard time watching it and trying to imagine that it's me...

I just "picked" myself up a pair - Sports Authority had them here in Jackson. I just found a pair online as well:

I started carrying these this year http://www.fishusa.com/product/Frabill-Ice-Picks. They're pretty nifty in the fact they have black sleeves held in place with a spring of some kind. That way they don't poke you, and the guard slides away when you jam it in the ice. This was a recent topic of research for me, and this was my favorite video

My mom up in michigan said that a father and 8 yr old son went threw the ice on lake winibego in wi. Both died. weird ice all over this year.
