Just wondering who all has plans of fishing this Derby, should be a great time, Ice is looking real good through the whole lake and the fishing has been great for trout the few times I've been out. Looking forward to seeing all of you that made it last year. Look me up at the Dia base shelter to say Howdy

I plan on trying to make it for the first time. Is there any place that has all the derby rules. Can you use a shanty on the lake during the derby or is it only open hole fishing? I am going out there this weekend if the wind hasn't killed all the ice.

they just follow G&F rules, 6 lines, shanties are fine, four wheelers are fine.

Thanks for the link. I fished Pathfinder in August and did well for trout. This will be the first time fishing it through the ice.

The only advice I have is stay mobile if you want to get serious with walleye. Trout are all over through the ice on that lake, Active walleye are hard to find but they are there. Just takes alot of drillin and movin to find them

If the ice is good enough this weekend I plan on hitting the ice. So I can try to map out some areas for the derby. Thanks for the heads up.

How big are the big walleye in Pathfinder?

Walleyes in pathfinder are nice sized, just tuff to get during the winter.

A 5 lb eye won the Derby last year and in previous years there has been an 11 lb and a 8 lb that has won it also. Had a friend that caught a 13 lb from there from the boat and got it hanging on the wall now. There are nice eyes in there just hard to catch ice fishing. Does anyone know what's goin on at bishops point? Is it true that they are working on plowing the road or is that just wishful thinking lol

They plowed it last year, Willie. I am sure they will plow it again.

I think they have it blocked off so they can plow the rest of the road into bishops without people goin through there and screwin up what theyre doing

Just got off the phone with Randy Byrd, they had an exceptional amount of snow blow over most of the road to bishops so they blocked it off so the crew could get it cleared without people screwin up what they have done or stopping progress getting people unstuck.

OK, So I called the road and bridge again this morning and they have 2 machines going out today and they assure me all roads will be cleaned up and useable by Thursday, Bishops, wolf point and marina road and if they have to they will continue to work on roads through the weekend if we get a lot of snow or if it blows in again. I don't think we are going to get snow but we all know how the wind blows around there. LOL GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND BE SAFE OUT THERE. I think most areas have fishable ice but with the warmth and wind we have been having we all know there can be thin areas

i went out yesterday afternoon (1/20/15) they had road plowed halfway to bishop point and were working on it still. i bet they have it open weds or thurs. wolf point was open with a few hairy spots on the road. ice was 10"-12". we caught a few good sized trout and a couple suckers in shallow water. its going to be a good weekend and hope to see everyone out there

Hopefully people with four wheelers and side by sides use caution this weekend there's some sketchy pressure ridges this year so pay attention and check before you mob over one .. The one I was fishing by all week went from a 5 foot gap of open water to frozen with 1" of ice in 3 days just enough to look safe but I would bet it's not .. Other than that ice looks great! I'm thinking of taking my son to the derby. Where can I find the registration info and such? Also does slogans have decent minnows now?

Sloans has good minnows, both sportsmens and rocky mtn have all the info and tickets.

Just picked up my minnows from adam and bill from blue Belle minnows. Great guys and great minnows. These are the state wide minnows. Give adam a call at 797 1338. Good luck to all.

After Saturday 1st Walleye 2nd Walleye 3rd Brown Trout 4th Brown Trout they were all over 4 pounds ans\d under 5. The Game warden said 2 4 wheelers went through the ice in the middle of the lake between the Marina area and the wolf point side. I fished at Bishops and the ice seemed to be 14" pretty much everywhere there.

Last I heard, two side by sides and a four wheeler went through the ice out from the marina, everybody got out okay though. Top four fish were all walleye from 6 to 4 lbs. Biggest trout was 4.2 lbs. I had a good derby, got second place in the first hour with a 2.98lb rainbow. Fishing was good Saturday but today all I caught was a sucker, I could see fish on the camera and was marking them on the flasher but they wouldn't hit, even saw a walleye in 6 foot of water. Hope everyone else had a good derby.

Pre derby fishing was great saturday and sunday not so much my buddy cught the first walley of the derby on sat morning after that nothing.

I heard the salvage crew is heading out Thursday to try and retrieve. I believe it is Western Divers 472-0230 if you want to call them and find out anything
