I thought I was running a more lean mix with a 50 to 1 then the recommended 25 to 1.

sounds like the idle mixture port is dirty.
when you clean the carb there should be a screw with a spring on it. turn that screw in until it seats. count the number of turns to make it seat. usually its one to one and a half turns. then remove it and spray carb cleaner in the hole. let dry and reinstall the screw to the proper turns out.
start the engine and get it warm. while warm turn the screw in about a half turn and out about the same until the motor idles smooth.
sounds like everything else is ok. good luck.
Thank a Vet.

No adjustments except Idle on that carb. Remove carb, dissasemble top and bottom diaframs one at a time. Clean with carb cleaner. Remove the needle and clean it and seat. Be carefill with needle as it is small. Two things to check befor doing this. Make sure the foam at the front of the carb is not soaked with gas and dirt. Also remove the muffler and see if it has a build up of oil and sticky residue. Mine was like that once. I put it in the wood stove and burned it out.
Thats Why They Call It Fishing.

I would think at 100:1 or even 50:1 it's going to smoke a lot, more oil in the fuel means more burning off.

I'll add some Sea Foam to the tank and see if that helps, already have it in the garage so that's an easy addition.

Steve
dude 100:1 means (ratio of 100 gallons of gas to 1 gallon of oil)  so less oil per gallon versus a 30:1 which would be 5 gallons of oil in 100gallons of gas

OK..........wasn't sure if it was Oil/Gas or Gas/Oil.

So at 40:1, I should be all set either way.

Is it possible to buy a new carb for this motor?

I took out the idle screw, cleaned it up, put it back in and it runs the same if not worse now. It won't idle without the choke on a bit, and when you put the chock in the run position and rev it up and pulsates now.

I sent Strikemaster an email asking about a new carb, waiting to hear back from them.

New carb was $57 last time I got one, fixed it long enough to sell it. I also agree on the 80:1 mix been running it for year in all my small 2 stroke motors, 1 mix for everything and no problems.

On the tank it says to run a 24:1 ratio, the fuel I'm using is a 40:1 ratio. I might add some gas to it to make it closer to the 80:1 ratio and try that after I get it running right.  It does smoke like crazy right now too...........keeps the mosquitoes away  LOL

It's funny that people say go with Jiffy................. same motors on Jiffy or Strikemasters.

Bought a bottle of Strikemaster 2-cycle oil and mixed it with fresh 91 octane......smokes a lot less now.

Yes, only 1 screw to adjust on this carb.

Took it completely apart today again, blew out all the ports, made sure everything was clean, put it all back together. Found a small crack on the plastic fuel inlet, so I have some glue on it to seal it up.

Going to double check the spark plug gap tomorrow.

Hopefully after all this, it will run better then it has been.

Steve
