Bait
« on: Dec 30, 2014, 07:09 PM »
I moved from the east and used mousees for bait.  All species seemed to crush them.  I have used meal worms since i moved to Colorado and had great luck with them for trout.  I had a friend of mine send me some mousees and tired them today, the trout did not seem to like them as much as meal worms.  Has any one tried using them and positive results, or was it just the day.  Thanks for any input and help I may receive.

I prefer waxies for trout - they're much cheaper, too.  You can always combine a finesse plastic with waxies to get the same effect as mousie tails if the fish are looking for that pattern.  Some people swear by mousies, especially for panfish.  Gander Mountain in Aurora has mousies in stock right now for those interested.
Flags up, gentlemen!!!

I tried them one season at Eleven Mile and they weren't as successful as wax worms.

For Rocky Mountain trout in order of fish preference I rate waxies number one then spikes, mealies and then mousies.  But this is my experience in general. Each situation and lake can have daily preferences that vary.  That is why I always bring a selection.
