well haven't seen on started yet for Oneida.... few bays are skimmed over a ton of waterfowl swimming around including lots of swans
-
My prediction is that this thread gets locked up before the lake does.
The open water on the east end is slushing up nice though. Fingers crossed.

Lmao ,chowdaire I believe your right ,
that’s why KP started the ice fishing friends and more thread , the die hard page is dead 💀
-
LOL the chances are good. ;D
-
last week at riverfront park in brewerton there was bait schooling up everywhere. Very thick. Didn't seem like too many walleyes were going after them, or maybe there was too much bait there. I think it could be a good place to trap some bait and soak a line if anyone needs to scratch an itch before the bays lock up
-
the ice is too thin refilling propane bottles will kill you selling fish is good and walleyes over 25 inches taste like mud .... ok lock it up dacker
-
You crack me up Trapper :roflmao:  :woot:

I’m really surprised the mods allowed an Oneida thread to open!! X2 on Your prediction!!!😁
-
Honest truth , I almost started one last weekend just so I wouldn't feel bad about locking it or removing everything.... ;D
Theres no reason we cant have a Diehard or BS thread if everyone could just get along...... ;)2
-
May I suggest Keeping the positive posts and removing the negative ones.We will all never agree on everything but we are allowed to express our opinions Civilly. As we enter a new ice season I'm looking forward to a few trips to fish the big O with you guys
-
All I want for Christmas is enough ice on Oneida Lake for the sled... ;D
-
lots of the lake skimmed over last night ice appears to got out a couple miles....highly doubt it will hold through the day...

This is the view from Cleveland.
Looks nice anyway. Less than an inch thick judging from the highly precise rock test my son and I did. ;D

Do you guys think there will be enough ice for me to run my tracked wheeler out to the shoals in the morning? It's been really cold lately. :icefish:

I'm another one who hopes we can keep the posts positive and informative. I love fishing this lake but its a 2 hour trip for me. Quite a distance to check conditions for myself. So I appreciate any info I can get off of this site. Happy to reciprocate if anyone needs info on Irondequoit Bay or surrounding waters.
-
perhaps 2much you would be better of PMing a few of the locals that fish the lake a lot and ask info privately , if i remember correctly most our issues was on the thickness of ice .... and where it was safe to fish
-
My prediction is that this thread gets locked up before the lake does.
Now that's funny!
(and unfortunately, likely accurate!)

😂😂🤣

well lets hope what little ice there is stays around till temps get drop again the open spots seemed to skim over ....i have my doubts it will stay
-
If we can just get 3" of freezing rain we should be good. :o
-
Right now the only ice I’m dealing with is in a 🥃 , Oneida lake is nothing to games with , just can’t understand the big rush , normally we don’t hit it until the first or second week of Jan anyway , and I don’t think there is anyone that enjoys ripping fish through the ice anymore than (eye) 🎣, and I don’t give first or last ice reports , But that’s just me
-
No rush.... just saying whats going on with the lake i never plan on being on the ice before early mid january
-

that wind tomorrow isn't looking good. but the ice sheet that formed was a good one.
-
Great to see the site back up, going to camp tomorrow and get my ice fishing equipment ready. planning on fishing some time in mid January till last ice with few days off [hope its not just a dream]
-
Stil killing deer one more day then its time to ice fish and trust I am dying to get out there but I will not be the first one and I will have no ice reports but I hope everyone gets out there and has a safe season and full buckets
-

Right on Trapp! I'm hoping to get the bibs this year!
-
if the temp would drop now and the winds would stay down we would def be out on Oneida this weekend. If it holds till tomorrow I think there is still a good chance for a Christmas eve.
-
Some pretty good wind is headed this way. :'(
-
I think we're in trouble, it's going in the wrong direction and the weather looks too warm. Ugh
-
it mostly opened up from what i can see
-
I can't remember the last time the lake just locked and stayed that way until it was fishable, seems like this happens every year. It freezes and almost holds then everything blows out from high winds when a cold front moves back in.
-
So uhhhh is there safe ice ;D

other then big bay I don't remember ever getting on Oneida before the first week in jan . what is the earliest any of you guys got out there?
-
I fished out of Jewel December 11th back in the late 80s with my dad. That is the earliest I have been on the main lake.
That year they had to break ice to pull the buoys out. :o
-
i was out on the main lake dec.24th thats my earliest .... there a thin skim layer on it now im really hoping that we dont get enough ice to support the snow we are forecast to get
-
Damn global warming that is

With the temps were gonna get everyone is overthinking it. It's going to be fine esp with the snow were getting wind. Plan on next weekend it's time to do the oneida lake thing.

Get rid of that junk out there and give us a nice clean sheet of ice.

It's ripped out 200 yards of ice so far outta the bay I'm at
-

MOTHER NATURE AND OLD MAN WINTER things looking good wont be long
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE and lets remember
STAY SAFE AND FISH HARD WATER be smart and SPUD SPUD SPUD
-
left house before it was light out got home right at dark she looked frozen across but not 100% sure
-
forecast shows negative lows for the next 6days
-
Looked locked up when I drove along the north shore today. Of course, light snow cut down visibility so I couldn't see the whole way across. Won't be long now!
-
locked up as far as i could see this AM really smooth ice chapman area to the east towards lewis looks rough
-
only 2in of black ice 100yrds out chapman area needs time
-
Oneida1 is correct... Lewis and good portions of the north shore were tore up from the last heavy west wind. Looks like a battlefield out there. Going to be tough going for awhile when she’s ready.
-
I haven't really fished big water much is that jumbled ice alot weaker?
-
For you science geeks like me, here's good info on ice formation with a formula to estimate ice formation at various temps:
http://lakeice.squarespace.com/ice-growth/
-
yea Lewis Point is pretty rough going to be a lot of anchor ice from Messengers to the east end. Haven't had time to check the ice so not sure on thickness and quality.
-

once it sets up, that chunky ice is no diffent than any other ice, same strenghth, but rick at apps said there was a nice ice sheet yesterday 5 inches thick out too the deep water, but there is a few snow drifts and under those drifts the ice hadn't formed well yet, only 2 inches. sorry oneida1 I didn't see this thread when I started mine. be careful near drop offs on early ice , currents from the wind before it froze will still be keeping those areas thinner sometimes.
