Thanks TGF. Boy, we can't compete with those monsters out here. Great pictures. Makes me want to move North West again. Who knows? Was one of those pics a rainbow? Cheers back at ya! <<<<>< Tarmitten.
If your from Yukon, then you will know this fish(Image removed from quote.)I know its not a laker but it will probably make you a bit homesick. Cheers
I know the guys from Canada are going to make me look like a fool, but those are some of my Laker pics. 8)
Caught that one yesterday afternoon...just under 14 lbs. IT WAS FUN!!
Beautiful fish, we don't have them here in my part of South Dakota and it has been about 6 years since I have been fishing for them in Canada. You are very lucky to be where you are.
Ice dawg...I couldn't agree with you more....just got in from an afternoon on Cold Lake...we count our lucky stars that we have thisremarkable fishery right at our doorstep. Any time you feel the urge to cross the border to fish...let Sweetie and I know!!
Hey Littleoldlady,Are there big walleyes in Cold Lake also or just big lakers?
I am planning to take my son up next fall and I usually go to northern Manitoba for walleyes, pickerel and Lakers. I will keep the offer to fish with you and Sweetie in mind. Anytime you and Sweetie would like to try some Walleye fishing on Lake Oahe or Lake Sharp, you will be very welcome.
Would love to fish for the wallies: our walleye fishery is collapsing in so many of the lakes around Cold Lake...they grow and reproduce veryslowly in cold water. In most of the local lakes the limit is one, and the size limit is over 50 cm. or approx 20 ". There is one lake that, I swear, thewalleye know the limit and grow to exactly 49 1/2 cm.!!
I am a hardcore laker jigger Nothing beats pulling up 20 of those puppies in a day on a medium jig rod They are super easy to catch, fight like crazy and taste just awful but you can count on em to bite pretty much all day on the brightest sunniest days when not much else will cooperate The best day we ever had on Lake George here in NY was 4 of us caught 74 in 6 hours all on jig rods and we had doubles and triples the whole time, what a blast 8)
You wouldn't beleive the clueless people here that catch em on tipups and then let the laker flop on the ice in 15 degree weather while they walk 100 yards back to their sled to get a tape measure, walk back to the trout while it's gills and skin are frozen into the ice and then take 2 minutes to measure it, realize it's too small and then kick it back down the hole to die and then commend themselves for releasing it while it streams a nice blood trail as it swims away I see it every winter and just shake my head If you're not going to keep it and it's real cold out you want to just leave the trout right in the water and unhook it as quickly as possible and get it turned back around and back in the water ASAP. On warm days it doesn't matter as much but I see more people mishandle trout than any other fish, it's a shame.
That is because most of those clueless guys up where we fish lakers have no idea what 23 inches is and think they need to measure every laker they ice. I saw a guy put a ruler on a 17 inch fish one day. Of course the ruler was at his base camp and the fish spent a good 3 minutes out of the ice in 10 degree weather.
