Open water troll reel w/line counter for ice jigging
« on: Jan 14, 2014, 03:05 PM »
I'm probably just the last guy to figure this out but figured I'd throw it out there anyway. I recently upgraded an open-water trolling set-up & found myself with an extra, smallish trolling reel (level wind)with a line-counter on it. Threw it on my laker jigging stick and ohhhh my how it has improved my life. Instant, accurate, depth readings and always know exactly where your jig is in the water column. I don't have any ice electronics so it was very helpful to me anyway, figured I'd pass it along.

No matter - where you are with equipment - or what you do - if it works - keep on keeping on! Good Luck!

I use one as well... Depths are not accurate unless you are using the right line thickness... Mine will show I'm in 40 feet of water and my hand held soundar says 27.... May be safe to double check!
