I’m a railroad car inspector repairman. My duties too inspect the freight car to make sure its save to roll. A lot of responsibility involved with car equipment, to hasmat material. I have been with the railroad now for 32 yrs. Never been laid off. I been through 3 rail mergers and probably will see one more before I retire. I started out with the Penn central Conrail took us over in 1976 and now I’m with the csx railroad.  The working conditions and hours are not the best to have but if you are willing to put up with them the railroad will put a good dollar in your back pocket. I thank the union too. It’s been an excellent livelihood and the retirement benefits are the best around.
