Crappie Day

Took a chance and headed up north yesterday, loaded up the ranger and hit the ice….bounced around until I started marking fish…   I didn’t have any bait, both places I usually go to opened at 8, so I decided to just jig with some plastics which wasn’t workin….I found a dried up shiner in the dump body of the ranger, cut that up baited the hook and hit a large school of jumbo yellows….after lunch I moved to a hump that produces some solid crappies and a good mix bag of yellows an bass……nothing.  Moved to a spot I haven’t fished in a while dropped my jig down a got into crappies and the one white perch that inhaled my jig. Caught enough fish for a chowdah..

LOL, I had some on Saturday.  I was trying out a new multi fuel stove from firebox, couple of weeks ago I cooked some dogs over the wood fire with the same stove….but they weren’t reds

For sure….I had caught a small dink perch that was a bleeder and wasn’t gonna make it so between the crusty shiner that rehydrated itself and a fish eye it was a win for the day

Ha too funny we always keep a few desiccated shiners knocking around in the fishing box, just for those moments.... great job!

Well done Bill... sounds like a productive and well earned day .... nice that you can finally take the ranger out too.

As for hot dogs... can't doubt you there - in fact if I am not mistaken you might be the OP on the thread that tilted this whole site towards the delicacy that is the hot dog...

Thanks Dennis…I’ve had the Ranger out the last couple of trips…the lake has been holding on to the ice, last week it was really soft so I walked out…yesterday surprisingly it was pretty solid with about 3~4” of white fluffy snow an 11-14” of ok ice.
I’m a fan of a tasty dog…..

Nice post good job. My mission is to fish somewhere tomorrow but I know walking will suck. Gonna use hand auger to lighten the load.
