I would stick to a dedicated ice fishing line made from Dacron. I prefer thicker line so that my hand don't get cut up.

 h26 I think is right, you will be hand lining these in, and I have heard of cut hands, by weightless fish, that all of a sudden, by the hole, explode

I use mason tip up line 40#   Teflon coated.  Thick enough to not cut hands and best part is when you toss what you gai end aside itdoes a really good job of not coming back through you hands all wadded up .
