What tools/accessories should I have?
« on: Jan 23, 2016, 12:12 PM »
Bought my first ever snowmobile, and am trying to get it outfitted for the ice. I've got a spare belt, extra plugs, the tool kit, an extra quart of oil to keep on it, and scratchers and a hitch that I have yet to put on. Have seen where it was recommended to have a rubber mallet on hand, and a towstrap, but am looking for any other recommendations on tools I should have handy, or any "must have" accessories. Appreciate any and all help/advice.

I carry flash light, spark plug wrench ,extra rope in case my pull start chord brakes off I will be able to start it still. I also bring spare key with me just in case . I would highly recommend carrying your insurance card and registration. Far as oil I just make sure it's full before I hit the ice, as is the gas tank. And I always let someone no where I'm headed to...you just never no . I've have blown up a sled on Ondiea two miles out. Thank God for Rick at Apps Bait shop. He really got me out of a jam...

A small survival kit with compass, hand warmers, firestarter, possibly a survival blanket.

Cell phone - even if you don't have a signal to make a call maybe you could get a text message out, a come-a-long, and a shovel.

Have a DC outlet in your dash and carry a DC power cord for your phone, that's only if you have a battery in your snowmobile of course.

Thanks for the responses. Should have been more clear that I was talking about snowmobile specific stuff. Have all the safety survival gear/GPS/cell/charger, etc.

Have a few extra sets of plugs.

Come-a-long is a good idea, as is a spare pull rope.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of App's as well.

JonPerry has listed the MOST IMPORTANT piece of equipment to take anywhere you go fishing, A COMPASS, whether it be a clip on, or mounted to the dash of your sled, have one with you ALWAYS.
