Underwater camera
« on: Jul 05, 2020, 11:41 AM »
Really want a GREAT underwater camera. I have tried an older Cabelas one that was black and white. My lake was crystal clear and I could only see anything right on the bottom. Then I tried a MarCum Recon, again only good to view the bottom and couldnt see crap on sunny days. Anybody have a great camera that can be seen all the time?

Couple things I can offer on features ...size is important too big/bulky you wont bring it unless fishing in a permanent house or hub smaller tends to be better especially for scouting . A sun shield/screen is important ...also adding some anti glare film helps . IR lights if it comes with them .. must be able to be turned off/on . Couple tips on positioning down or up 45 deg is very useful .. down 45 deg is my go to for scouting ..down the hole a quick spin and then mark the holes with any structure or fish that are visible .Short comings of most cameras are water clarity ..ice thickness and clarity ..snow cover and clouds . I have a older Aqua Vu II w/DVR that is my scouting camera with is almost always used... I also have an older AV Micro 5 w/DVR if its a sit and stay day thats te one I will bring . Another thing on the DVR recording make sure it is a current format ..I know when the Recons came out the format was QuickTime which disappointed some folks .. Here are some mods I made .I am sure with the recent innovations and pixels/screens and cameras my AV models will be dinosaurs in a few years .

Thank you, I have tried a few but dont fish in a shelter. Been looking at the Marcum LX9. Have both in one machine that way. Really hoped the recon would have worked because of its portability but was really hard to view during the day.

I have the AquaVu mini. Nothing fancy and 3.5” screen. For ice fishing, esp in clear water, it works great for me. Good luck.
