Did you catch any JUMBOS?  heard they are going to be in shorter supply this year.  haha Jumbos in shorter supply.  It sure is good to be easily entertained during the Covid shutdowns.

Caught 4 on Saturday. Two were jumbos. 9 on Sunday. 4 were jumbos. Bite was slow for the last couple of weeks but it has picked up.

Dats a JUMBO.  Any pointers for how to fish there?  Never been.

The guys at tackle Tom’s (their local bait shop) say to use anything that looks like a little perch. Little rappala or tingler spoons. Or u could use a Tungsten jig tipped with wax worm or red worm. Target 8-30’ depth (12-20 ideal). Look for structure. Flasher is a must. Jaw jackers are very nice. At a risk of being accused of “cheating”, I would even suggest a jaw jacker with the jigging base.

If you stay at the south end of the lake, u can still get around with a quad. North end will require tracks. Or u could walk in from a boat launch...Most people try to fish around sugarloaf island.

Hope that helps!

Blue Lake wasn’t good enough to get on this afternoon in the access channel.  Headed to Freeman Lake and fished for 2 hours or so.  Ice was 4.5” and solid.  Caught probably 30 perch between two of us and kept 10. Largest was 8.5” and several were 6” or less.

With the colder temps by the end of the week I would bet Blue will be good again by the weekend.

Temps are starting to look good towards the end of the week and into next week! Hopefully that means some of these lakes firm up soon.

Hit Freeman again this afternoon. Landed about 25 in 2 hours with 5 largemouth and the rest perch.  Only kept 7 as most of the perch were smaller. Had a couple of tip ups out for pike....but no flags.

I checked mirror lake on Saturday and the whole lake was iced over but they had caution tape blocking off the launch and it didn’t look very thick. There was some open water around the dock.

Hey buddy are you thinking of going fishing this weekend? You think Mirror will have enough ice?

I fished Freeman yesterday and ice was good with about 5 inches of clear ice.  Went to Blue but ice was melted falling apart at access and saw a few boot holes where someone tried to get on.  Caught some nice bass and small but big enough to clean perch at Freeman.  No flags on tip-ups for the three or four hours until dark.  Got to try out my new clam plate with gear drive.  Cut 8 inch holes easily.  Still a work out but did not have to take a break after three hole like I do with the hand auger. But the ice wasn't thick either.  Definitely needs an extension with the Mora Strike Master auger bit and it wants to take you down to the hole when it breaks through.  Might changed to the Nils auger bit as my brother says it does not pull you down to the hole at break through and no need for extension.

Hit freeman for a few hours this morning, the ice is 5.5”-6” of good solid ice.  It was building more and making noise this morning.  We caught a couple dozen perch, half were 7-8” and the other half were 4” and smaller.
