So I went to Avondale got a nice 13 in perch lost a catfish at the hole and got 11 perch for pike bait. they were very aggressive . Ice was a solid 8-9 inches, but I would be careful getting on to it, it is about 3-4 open water at the launch but good ice after that(I have chest waders on)

Anyone ever ice fished Blanchard lake?  I heard there were brook trout in there.
I know there's crappie and bass. Was wondering about the brook trout, pike and catfish?

Got up early and headed to Fernan. Ice still good on the east end, but it is starting to go.  Fishing was good.  24 nice perch and two trout.

Worried about the ice with the latest forecast.  Hit Hayden yesterday.  There was still a good 7-8" of ice.  One guy out there on a 4 wheeler.  My wife and I had 9 tip-ups out.  Iced 2 pike in 4 hours.  Missed 3 others (so a total of 5 flags in 4 hours).  They just didn't seem to be taking the bait like normal.  Saw several others lose fish too.

Nighttime temps won't be below freezing until next Saturday. That might make getting on at Fernan a bit iffy.

We need a hard freeze and the monthly forecast shows nothing like that coming down the pipe.  I can't believe how bad this year is turning out for ice.  Good for deer and elk though.   I hope the weather man is wrong though, need some more ice.

Frustrating day at hayden. Lost "the one" at the hole. Lots of flags though. I can see the ice getting pretty bad soon, like everyone's afraid of, ice was getting slushy on top. Hopefully the weather takes a turn.

Yeah, Hayden's ice seemed to be doing good up until about noon. Then the top got really slushy. Only got a few perch and 1 bluegill all under 6 inches. 2 tip ups had nothing bite.
I did feel bad for NedShneebly. He got a big one up to the hole, got to see the head, and then he broke off.
I didn't really see the fight, but heard it because of the fog.  :-\
Nice to meet you though NedShneebly.

I really need an ice report for Fernan.  I need a break from the sawdust and it is a ways to drive.

You might try calling IDFG directly to see if they have had anyone out there and if they consider the ice to be safe....absent a report from someone here anyway.

At fernan now, ice has pulled of shore by 5' in most spots, east launch dock only has 2" of ice spud bar went through in two hits. West launch seemed slightly thicker spud bar did not go through. Ice near all the side pull outs has pulled away from the rocks too far to be accessed. No one is fishing it.

One guy out at west launch, ice is white and only 3.5" at the west launch, might be better in middle of the lake, im not trying it, heading back to moscow, kindve a bummer. Got to test my repaired marcum from the pier though so not a total loss.

Thanks for the update Fowl. I know I'm not getting my wife out on the ice this year unless we see a cold snap in the next few weeks.  :-\

Such a disappointing ice season. I sure hope we get some prolonged days/nights of freezing in Feb.

Called Winchester today...  Said they had a good five inches of ice.  Staying there Thursday and Friday nights and am helping out at their ice fishing derby on Saturday.

There is always the ice derby at Cascade for monster perch.  They are getting below freezing temp at night so looks good down there.

It's a long ways to travel and an expensive trip to stay there. I may look into it though.

I went and checked out Thompson on Tuesday and there was open water twenty feet out from shore.  Any good ice in North Idaho?

Have you checked Round lake (off Dufert) for ice conditions stjoe? That lake is pretty sheltered and should still have good ice on it. BLue Duck would know.

Avondale has a plank of wood to get onto the ice, the ice is still good out there

At 6'7'' and over 300 LBs, I think will wait until a plank of wood is not required to get onto and off of the ice personally.  ;D

I'll gladly follow you on ice, Huge.      :woot: :roflmao:

A third less mass is a small advantage to staying dry, ha.

I'm sure you could outrun me, Huge. If I hurry I can do the hundred in 9.1 .

That's nine minutes ten seconds ~ 76 orbits has slowed me a bit.     :woot: :roflmao: ;)2

That does tend to happen.  :)
Is there any ice worth fishing in the Sandpoint area? I've got to take my brother up there to retrieve a plane in Bonners soon.
