I went out today, about 2kms north of sarnia beach, was slow at first, but we caught 4 real nice walleye, 4 smaller walleye, and 9 decent perch, not even a bite from a burbot or a jack. We were about 500m from shore, in about 40ft of water with 6 inches of ice.  Can't wait to go out again next weekend, might try out to collingwood, there were a few people out up there.

Does anyone know of a site where there would be a decent map of the lake with all the names of the areas on it?  I've never fished Last Mountain but would love to try.  I hear people talk about Rowans, Hendersons, Collingwood etc....

Any help guys?

Hi guys,
Have any of you ever tried ice fishing in the Lewis Creek area? :-\

If so, do you fish in the creek it's self, the mouth of the creek or a bit off the in the lake?
What is the usual catch around there?

I also know that Lewis Creek closes to fishing from March 1st to May 14th.

I think the creek is pretty dry by winter time.  I've been out that way and seen some shacks close to the mouth but the majority were clustered out in the middle of the lake.  I think guys get mostly perch and some pike there.  I think the fishing can be decent.

Yeah some guys are definitely overestimating how much ice is out there, you might find 8+ deep in the bays that have been frozen for a month+ but the lake itself was maybe 4 inches where I was fishing this week and its heaving/cracking like I have never seen before.  I actually put my leg through walking back off the lake in the dark the other night(on the same path I walked out on), sketchy!!

Play it safe gentlemen.

Yes I think overestimating is quite a problem. Most guys say its 8+ when its really 4.

The exact same fish (not just the species) swim through the Qu'Appelle river system to and from the 4 Qu'Appelle lakes up to Last Mountain Lake... check a map.. So to say there are bigger fish on one lake over another is just a matter of when and where... Yes, fish that were swimming in Echo this summer migrate through the river in the valley & up to Little arm and vise versa next spring

Any of the fishing lakes (Eastern Qu'Appelle chain) could have a big one, it's a little like bingo.  The serious fishermen I know go to all the nearby lakes.
The problem with quotes on the internet is that they're difficult to prove.

Oh Clayton.........I think for someone with your limited fishing abilities you are going to have to live at the lake in an Ice Castle for at least a whole month to even have a chance at a double digit walleye !!!!! I have heard of 9 lbers coming out of Long at first ice but I dont think the lake has many in that double digit range! LOL!!!!

Then it's settled I will live at the lake for a month until I catch a big walleye.

Yeah, I thought that Lewis Creek might be a bit dry this time of year.
Always neat to check out new spots and on LML, there can be quite a few new spots to check. ;)

Speaking of new spots, do any of you ice fish at Big Arm Bay? ???
If so, do you fish off the 2 main beaches, go further back into the small bay by bridge, or even further back into the big bay it's self.
I would guess most of the lake species should be found in that area. :-\
