Let's break the ice on the board and have us a good old fashion meet and greet. Let's be friends and not internet names! Is there interest? We could do several as to get people in the same area's together and do some fishing and BSing. Maybe even do a group trip to a destination type lake (Fort Peck, Nelson, Devils Lake, ect) where we could all go fish multiple days together.
I'm game, are you?

I could potentially make this one...never done very good through the ice at Swan...but I'm probably holding the maggots in the wrong cheek!

I'm definitely up for that! I myself have been wanting to fish swan again. But I'm game for fishin anywhere, anytime. By the way my name is Willie and I live in butte. I dont know if you'd remember me jay but I remember you from grade school. Lol that was a while ago.lol.

Devils Lake trip certainly. A couple of us were going to go last Feb but there was a huge amount of snow on four feet plus of ice. As it turns out we could have ice fished there until mid April. The way this winter is starting that auger extension and tracks may be a must again this year. The best fishing there always seems to be early and late in the season. January trips are often a bust.

In my opinion December is THE month to be on Devils Lake. I also did really good on Nelson in December. If we have good ice on Fort Peck in December I can only imagine what the fishing would be like! Cold enough to drive trucks on Fort Peck? Hell Creek here I come!
I'd love to fish Swan for the first time. I will be chasing big fish when ever I can in Eastern Montana.

My best fishing on Devils has always been late March, but yes first ice is great as well. Before the lake got so big (1980's) we could hit Ziebach Pass and fish five feet of water through three feet of ice and wreck perch, pike and walleye. Never quite figured out where those white bass went in the winter.
Driving on Peck again (finally) would be great...but always iffy with it's methane and ridges. I think I'll stick with the quad or stay within Hell Creek Bay. Hopefully the walleyes will come in a bit earlier this winter.

I would be game for a get together.i live in billings but depending on the time of the season I could go just about anywhere.peck would be my first pick but I am not against new waters.i lived in Kalispell so I did some fishing around there to.

Any Billings people want to meet up to hit something tomorrow or weekend? I am thinking TRR or Sutherlin. Got all the gear, auger, shack, heater, sonar, tackle, but my 4 wheel drive is out.

Gamehog I plan on trapping some minners tonight possibly seining ill let you guys know how I do but I'm thinking I want to try the point at rattlesnake if the ice is good enough. We should have at least two pop up shelters out come on by and say hello

If I don't have to work, I can be at the swan. Never have caught pike out of it, just kokes and bull trout.

id be into doing the swan lake thing, never fished thru the ice and lots of species to fish for... good to see you back Missoulafish, how did the coast treat you this fall? Also, would like to do a group thing to Noxon. Safety in numbers around some of the locals down there...:)

If J goes, his kids are well behaved and his daughter Natalie is pretty adorable. I haven't met anyone else's kids on here yet though but I have fished with J and his kids. I won't be able to make it that weekend due to work but if you ever want to come down and fish with me and my kids I rarely ever swear and I don't drink or smoke and my GF is the same way and has young kids of her own so unless there was some real jerk out on the ice you should be good to go coming and fishing down here with us anytime you want.

Checked swan ice today. 0-3inches south end was making some good ice but now has 1 foot of snow. Open water in the middle of the lake and inlet. Another good cold snap should do it.

Oh I spose. I'm no authority on fishin spots there but I go by their enough to see how the ice is doing. Anyone else can feel free to chime in if they know something.

It sounds like fun but that weekend doesn't work for me. That's the weekend of the Pike on Ice tournament in Seeley Lake. :(

I run a trapline up above the lake and I have a nice view of the lake. still two open spots on each end that scare me a little bit but if we get some more cold weather to lock it up good. Old school Ben there are as follows in the lake. bull, brook, rainbow, lake and cutthroat trout, kokanee, perch pike and northern pike minnow. A few others i could be missing as well

Drove by the swan yesterday :( guess we would need a big boat to fish from its open .. hope for cold snap to come back.

As of last week it was not safe. I'm out of the area for a couple weeks so Don't know if this cold is helping any.

The question was asked on another thread but there happen to be some contreversy going on so I thought I'd try to start some chatter on this one. Alternatives for Swan gathering if ice isn't safe? I'm really looking forward to it so any chance to make it happen I'm all for. Will travel for good folk and good fishin!

checked it 4 days ago when we pulled our traps, there was a thin skiff in the middle that was froze and thats it... not safe to fish at all :( Im thinking we might need to find an alternative lake for sure.

I'm good for some kind of get together to meet folks. Now that I am back home and done with family issues for awhile. LMR is good, the Thompsons is good, Swan is good if it ever freezes of good.

Thompson chain has way more opportunity for a big fish than LMR. Huge trout. Some of the biggest Kokes in the state and magnum pike:)

I'm ready to fish and meet that's forsure...the thompsons will be 4 hr.drive for me . I would just love to get one of those big thoothy ones. Oh and yes a 14" perch sounds good too.. I have some custon built tipups my fatherinlaw sent to me can't wait to use them.
I'm ok for a day trip any wear so lets hope for lots of ice somewhere.

Noxon anyone. The list of species is long and distinguished and it grows them big. Ice is pretty good this year too and it would be cool to have a crew to try to figure out the walleye or lake whitefish that are there but no one seems to have dialed in yet.

I'm up for Noxon as well. I hear there's a tourney at the Thompson Chain on the 25th. Not too sure if I want to fish with hundreds of others during a tourney on water I've never fished, but fishing with a group of Shanty-ites would rock.

I was just saying I'd be interested in a meet up on one of the Thompson Chain lakes... I would be much much more likely to attend if it were a weekend when there weren't a bunch of people. :) Maybe you guys can come up with a day that works for most that isn't during a derby...

Hey there ice fishers,
I would like to join anybody in an area around or close to Kalispell. Any takers? I little about me, I am 24yrs old, have my own truck, hut, heater, fish camera, gas auger, and other fishing equipment. I am not picky on what to fish for, h.e.l.l. if you want to catch suckers all day I am up for it. I may forget to look at this post, so if your interested in putting some gills on the ice send me an inbox message as I just found out how to work that thing.

Don't count out the swan yet. One of the last to ice over. About 4 inches by the boat launch. Inch or two around the first pullout (coming from the north). North end is side open, but the ol timers I have spoken with have told me to never get on the ice that eventually does form. Because it is big and deep, swan takes a while. By the end of january, it should be more than ready. We have a cold snal this weekend too...

Last year the fishing was great right up until they had a tournament which included spearing of pike which was kind of cool actually but after that tourney the fishing tanked for the remainder of the season. Not sure if it was due to the tournament or not but I fished it both before and after and the difference was remarkable.
I'm up for Noxon at least for a little while I would come and visit with you guys.

Ahhh! So that is what happened last year!! Good to know and it does make sense now that you mention it. There was a definite slow down.
