Title: jig size
Post by: flyhaven on Jan 23, 2018, 09:30 AM
I was going to try the vmc wax tail jigs and not sure what size to order?I see the smallest ones seem to be the hardest to find 1/100 and 1/50..Is it fair to say these sizes work best for all around panfish?

I have better luck with really small jigs for panfish...   tungsten heads of 4MM size is my go to, I tip with maggots.

Saying that, the VMC jigs look interesting.   I'd stay with total size around 1/2 inch or less.

3 & 4mm tungsten jigs are my favorites. I will fish a 5mm sometimes. Wax worms have been preferred over maggots for me this year. I have caught fish on 2mm jigs but I usually only downsize to them when I’m having a bunch of sniffers and no biters. Usually tip the 2mm jigs with one maggot. Jeffsjigs.com has some really nice jigs that I’m trying this year.

Tungsten is the only way to go. Jeffs Jigs are good, but I use Fiskas from YourBobbersDown. Generally smaller is better. Wonderbread & Sunbeam have been producing for me

5's for perch 3's for gills. If I'm not getting bit I'll go down from there
