Ice conditions
« on: Jan 28, 2024, 05:24 PM »
Backwaters just south of Wabasha today, 8 inches of ice, top 2 inches or so was crap, and the shoreline was very wet.  Also lots of dead shad all over the ice in a place or two.  I’m not sure if they got pushed up through open holes or what?

Caught several small gills and perch - one nice perch all day.  Talked to a few others who all said fishing was slow and all small fish.  Of course, I was talking to fishermen - so that might mean they all limited out early.

Seems like the sun and mid 40’s this week might end the season way too early?

Sorry - I’m a long ways from Mille lacs.   The ice should be good there for a while yet.  Just make sure you triple check with someone local before you go _ this year is really screwed up….
