Thinking about going out tonight I don't have much experience doing this at night time but with the snow squall in the Moon being almost full I thought it would be a good night and it's not going to be that cold out anybody have any tips suggestions?

I do far better at night inshore on shallower flats and bowls vs. the deeper holes or channels I’d target in daylight. Glow jigs work better for me. Where I’d normally fish them in 20-30ish feet in day I’ll go down to 10 or less at night. Bait has never been needed at night either and I’ve been able to use bigger lures

Been wanting to go out after work and fish into the night for crappie for a while. I'll have to keep in mind to fish a bit shallower although the pond I fish for crappie is only 17ft at the deepest and I do good around there I might fish a bit shallower now.

Glow jigs and charge them often with a uv light. Have a second rod set up with something that makes some noise.
-
Go get em, I'm going to use the front to look for whites in the morning.
-
Thanks will.report back going solo. Concord anyone else around let me know

Agreed, I get whites the same way at night.

My go to for nite time crappie is PK Predator red dot glow — Good luck it should be a great nite for it
-
They go shallower at night in front of a creek on the edge of weeds.

Thanks for everyone's input. Got only 6 and one gill. Was using a Bobby Garland mo glo jig and a forage minnow with a rattle inside. Rattle jig was most productive. Deepest was 10ft and that seemed to be the most productive. Fish were not aggressive but did get a few to bite. Fish finder worked great. No clutter from plankton.

Good stuff salmonemia, love fishing at night. And like poolguy said... red dot glow predator is deadly on those night time slabs.

I'm panning a trip up to Moultonborough next weekend, and will be doing some night fishing with my submersible LED light setup.
Before anyone chimes in about the legality of using fishing lights, I did check SPECIFICALLY for the type I will be using, and Lt. Murphy of the NH F&G stated that are OK to use.

I would like to chime in & wish you good luck.....(and thx for calling to clarify the law for the rest of us...)

Nice work! I might try later in the season when we get some mild nights. :D

just bought a uv glow charger hoping it keeps them charged longer

They do work!

They work and you will like it. Fish will like it even more. Good luck Wayne. I have a blast jigging at night. Dont lose sight of that noise maker.

thanks yes will do gonna use pk's and a forage minnow with a rattle inside

I’ve seen guys use them on the Vexilars it double as a rod holder...I don’t fish enough at night but if I did I’d buy one

Will a propane lantern work to charge the glow jigs as well?
-
Yes it will just won’t last as long or be as bright
-

This. It wont last long at all and will never be as bright as the UV. better than nothing but not even comparable in my opinion.
-
There are a crap-ton of UV flashlights on Amazon for skinny money. I paid less than a ten spot for a 395NM light that makes my jigs glow like no tomorrow.
-
Here is a strategy question, as I havent been night fishing for them in my current spot....I have my shack in the center of a 30' basin that I pick crappies off pretty good during the day. Will they still be there at night? Do they move out of that basin and go shallow at night? How shallow?
-
Everywhere I fish them they leave in the afternoon and head for shallow bowls and flats in 10’ or less. I don’t even mark a fish after pounding them all day with the flasher our deep, I move in shallow and there they are

Agreed, gotta follow them to the shallows with the sunset.

I think that depends on the lake.
