BISCUITS AND SAUSAGE GRAVY
« on: Nov 17, 2019, 08:45 PM »
While visiting some friends down south, we were surprised that they like biscuits and gravy but didn't have a recipe to make their own.
I thought I would post our recipe for anyone that would like to try it.

Here's what you will need:

1 pound of your favorite breakfast sausage
3 cups of milk
1/3 cup flour
2 TBS butter
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp Salt + - (salt to taste, some sausage meats are saltier than others)
Couple splashes of hot sauce (optional)

1. Brown sausage in a large frypan until done.
2. Melt butter into browned sausage, stir to evenly coat

3. Sprinkle flour over browned sausage, mix in well

4. Cook flour into sausage while stirring for several minutes until flour smell is gone.

5. Pour in milk and add seasonings

6. Bring to a simmer, stirring often until thickened, remove from heat

7. Serve over biscuits

8. It’s also good over other foods like hash browns topped with a couple of eggs.

Good Luck All

My wife makes it every so often, very good. One bit of advice never buy the sausage and gravy in a can, we did once and noticed some unidentified pieces in it. After that always made from scratch lol

The morning after a music gig this is my go to meal. My recipe is pretty similar without the actual measuring. Learned from a chef buddy while on a skiing trip out West in 1991.

Going ro try this recipe today.    Had biscuits and gravy in Clovis Cal. a few years ago, supposed to be one of the best places around. Loved it.  Don't hear about it here in Canuckland.

Excellent!!  Great pre-fish meal.  If you are in a hurry and like your gravy with a bit of a kick, the Jimmy Dean's HOT sausage rolls work well, but I prefer to use a good meat market country sausage and season it "spicy" myself.  A bit of red pepper flake in the milk gravy and a few shakes of cayenne and black pepper.  You can control the heat a little better than with the store brand "HOT".  Thanks for the post, I know what I am having for breakfast tomorrow!
