Any of you guys do good with color black?
I know shallow water colors can be specific. And I really have been on the fence weather certain colors produce better than others.
But, black is said to have the best contrast and should then hold the best outline and visible shape under water. So black should be a top producer. Have any of you tried black jigs or lures? What's your thoughts?

Everything goes black the deeper you go, but for me moving the jig usually gets there attention.
I have had very good luck and no luck I think its different for each lake I fish.
Gold is my number one choice. The best way to find out is try what you have.
Have a safe and productive season!

I caught only one crappie on a black plastic the last time I was out (Tuesday)... I caught two on orange plastics though.. The black plastic got bit the fastest. Some food for thought

One of my base colors to start with. Many of the main food types are fairly dark, an often overlooked color, just isn't an eye catching enough color for humans. Motoroil is another one overlooked that works better than many think

This is exactly why I'm wanting to use it this year.

Black based jigs with gold ,red , purple glitter are some of the best jigs in my area . I keep a few of these on hand at all times . I also keep many others that have black spots or have the back or bellys painted in black .

Black ratso/shrimpo are confidence lures for me. Always seem to catch a fish on them when nothing else works.

Black Jakes Lure caught my biggest Trout from shore. Also watched a guy pulling in Crappie after crappie on a black looking leech.

probably one of my best kept secrets. black jigs with red plastics for some reason seem to outwork just about everything else ive tried. as stated i think it gets overlooked since its not an eye catching color. but man does it work!

Once you go black you wont go back. I'll fish black in any color of water. Dirty, stained, clean, doesn't matter to me.

I took 2 of my Silver Kastmasters. Paint half of one side black and the other side completely black. They have caught some nice fish. And I just used some Rust-oleum paint.
I plan on getting some good paint and do some more. I will have to ruff up the Kastmaster.

Very interesting. I'm glad someone started this thread as I have been wondering the same thing. Picked up a beautiful black jig head with black and red buck on it. Bought it on merit of fine craftsmanship and the fact that I neither had one nor see many. Haven't fished it; yet. Definitely will make a point to give it a good shot this year and see how it produces. Report back.

What are the ideal conditions/lighting to deploy such a jig? Mine would. Be for lakers. Mid to shallow depth with snow pack and a lot of light, so as to create a high contrast profile against the ice from a fish looking at it from beneath?

I always have a black jig rigged up.  I've caught a ton of fish on black when nothing else was working.  Definitely a go to lure for me for panfish.

I like black jigs for Gills, at times.  However, some times a plain gray unpainted lead jig works too.  Other times, they want a Hot color.  Wish I could speak fish a little better.
