I am sure my wife pays WPDH's electric bill advertising her casino on their station every day 24/7/365. I can't get any FM station over here in Forestburgh except one from Honesdale.

I just got this today. Not sure it tells us if the ice will firm up early or not but I have my hopes.

LONG RANGE WINTER FORECAST: 2018-2019 For NY state,
NYC/Long Island, New Jersey and eastern PA.
Second in a series of long range winter forecasts. Our first one was sent on
August 1, 2018. These long range winter forecasts are sent to our clients on
August 1, October 1 and the final on December 1. This update is as of October 1,
2018. Next long range will be sent on December 1, 2018.
If you recall, last summer, we had a very accurate long range winter forecast.
We work with various experts on long range forecasting and combine those
forecasts with our own in-house meteorologists analyses and come up with the a
highly accurate long range forecast. As we know, long range forecasting can be
a very tough road to hoe but we do our best and the below information is what
we have come up with. The following is our second long range winter forecast
for the upcoming winter. Next one to be sent on December 1, 2018.
______________________ ______________________ ____________________
LONG RANGE WINTER WEATHER FORECAST: DECEMBER 1, 2018 TO
MARCH 31, 2019.
Headline: Above normal Snowfall for the winter. And
temperatures will average slightly below normal.
Look for our first cold air outbreak early this season, around MID OCTOBER.
Also, we are forecasting an early start to winter in terms of the odds of snowfall.
Watch for something as early as late October to mid November then more
significant “events” later November and December.
January will have it’s usual “January thaw” but not last too long. Still above
normal snowfall in January. February and March look to be closer to normal
temperatures with February above normal snowfall and March near normal
snowfall.
More specifically, we are forecasting snow totals this winter to be 35% to 55%
above normal totals! Temperatures will average 1 to 3 degrees below normal
with some periods of excessively cold air.
Thank you.

With deer season kissing in as of the first, good luck and stay safe all.

Holy cow, winter's almost here already. We've got winter seasons here on the saltwater, but I would like to try some hardwater fishing this year. I'll be watching the ice reports from down here on the coast. Good luck all.

Mid 20s the past few mornings here in Sullivan County with a light dusting of snow this morning. I rarely ever see safe ice, IMO! 6", much before the new year. I will be pleasantly surprised if it comes early this season and not at all surprised if it doesn't. Rifle deer season starts on Saturday and in the past I have needed a T shirt and bug spray sitting in a tree for a few days on the first week. I doubt this year will be like this but again, it wont surprise me with this funky weather pattern we have had all year long. Keep watching as the forum will begin getting busy in short order.

We're getting close now... wondering if anyone has ever attempted a camera on any of the NYC reservoirs? Don't imagine it'd be worth it with our water clarity, but I've never tried. Anyone?

I've tried on a smaller lake in Sullivan County. Main problem is water clarity and sunlight. When the ice is covered by snow it blocks a lot of sunlight from getting through so the bottom ends up pretty dark on camera.

Yea... I was thinking of adding one to the arsenal but I doubt it'd be worth it for our reservoirs. Just another thing to lug out there lol

I’m guessing on my observations of waters in the area and the forecast, Saturday morning might be a shallow pond GO time. Don’t try this at home.

I believe it was two or three years ago I drilled a couple of holes the day after Thanksgiving...that pond has been iced over since last week, and unless last night's rain caused havoc, I will be venturing out Friday or Saturday to jig for some panfish. But on the other hand it was two or three years ago that I went sailing on a lake near that pond...one way or the other I guess.
Getting excited for the upcoming season.

Thinking the same thing ..Jet sled and some plastics ..doesn't look to be much wind for Friday or Saturday.

  • I FISH BECAUSE THE VOICES IN MY HEAD TELL ME TO!!
Hi Guys.... nice to see the "Old Crew" is still active !!!  Down here in Nassau County, the Striped Bass are jumping into the boat!!!  Some pretty nice Blackfishing too !!  The years are creeping up on the old IceBalls and pains and medical issues are factoring in these days.  Don't know if I'll be able to hit the ice this season, but I'm certainly going to try !!  As they say " The golden Years can Kiss My Ass" !!

Yes Roger, as the saying goes "Too Old-Smart". I am felling it as well but will still get out there every day I can. Just have to pick my days more carefully, at least 6 inches of good ice, no heavy winds and temps above 20 degrees seems to still work for these old bones. I can't take the trudging through deep snows or the nasty cold and windy days like I used to but I hate sitting around this house when I ought to be out fishing. Golden years my ass!

Checkin in, good to see my winter ice friends again. Went through all my gear last weekend and waiting on a bait delivery. Won't be long. Good luck catching and be safe out there.

None that I know of yet but I would not be surprised if some small farm ponds are either there or close.

Hope everyone is doing well. We have 3-4 inches in southern WI and the ice season has already begun. Hope to get on some early ice in NY when I get back for winter break in a week.

drilled holes at the pond in California Hill this AM - about 1.5 inches... was holding my weight when I was on it but I didn't risk it.
