I can't tell you about the lakes but my ponds have lost 3 or 4 inches off the top. All the tilapia that I wasn't able to get out (use them for algae and weed control) before temps dropped belwo 50 F. , when they die, are not sticking up out of the ice like a tilapia massacre. All about 2 pounds.
