I just received an email confirming The Swan Lake derby run by the Swan Lake FD is open to Kids and Adults. Registration is usually by the tennis courts across from the old Stevensville Hotel.
When I see the flyer for this event I'll relay more info....

quailman2....As always Toronto freezes later than some of the smaller bodies of water in Sullivan County. There was some Ice on Toronto today but it had alot of open water on the Iroquois side of the reservoir.

I did!
Less than 3" ice (closer to 2"). Sullivan.
Didn't have a lot of time to search for the fish though, caught some sunnies on small pimple with mousy. I should have tried closer to shore, they (perch) were shallower last year at this time.
I used my new spud, boy it makes a lot of noise, must scare fish away for miles!! Made a few holes then circled back and started. Any tricks, or dig hole and come back later?

Snowing hard now, rain on the way but COLD forecast; see you all out next weekend!

Hey everyone, new to ice shanty, still getting the hang of thing's ( thank's for the help wetdream's) Is there SAFE ice anywhere? I know most guy's on here are from Rockland/Orange county area. Doesn't help tommorow high of 60 degrees. Yeah, I said 60 degrees in January.

Orange County Ice, Dan I don't think there will be any safe ice in Monticello until Thursday. The weekend should be good on most lakes up there. No problem helping you getting started on ice shanty. If you have any questions ask away because you will get a lot of help here. Walt

Orange County Ice welcome to the Ice shanty family as Wetdreams said feel free to ask questions. I'm also an Orange County ice man located north of you in the Town of New Windsor.

Quailman2 here is some additional info. on Toronto reservoir (Sullivan county) . There is a small parking/access area at the end of Muscoe road off of rt.55 look for sign saying The Pennisula-Chapan Estates . Chapan Estates is a high end gated community that surrounds most of the reservoir . To the right of the parking area is a gate do not drive past if gate is open if spotted by home owners or development security force you will be escorted out of the development. To the left of the parking spot(facing the water ) is the outlet from Black Lake I would stay close to the shore line on the right side of this bay no idea how much current flow in this area. The average depth in the bay is 5 feet with some deeper spots. If you walk out to the end of the peninsula water eventually drops to depth of 20 feet. This is a long walk especially if ice is snow covered . I would contact the DEC region 3 office in New Paltz ,NY. to see if gas powered augers and motorized vehicles are allowed on the ice. Also remember this reservoir is used for hydroelectric generation there maybe a gap between the bottom of ice surface and water at times depending on how much water is pulled from the reservoir.  I have no idea how the fishing is it has only been the last 3-4 years that water levels have been high enough to launch a rowboat/canoe from the parking area. Also on the other side of the peninsula a portion of the reservoir is marked off with buoys the Iroquois Sportsman's club owns the fishing rights in the marked off area.

I see more south east New York members returning just to let you all know there are a few gatherings of Ice shanty members planned for the coming season. The first is Saturday Jan.31 at the Fallsburg Fire Dept. contest. The contest starts at 7AM and is held on Echo Lake in South Fallsburg,NY. (this lake is also know as Alta Lake) Access to the lake and contest registration is held at the Firemen's Camp on Westwood drive. I started a thread on the different gathering and will revive it latter this coming week. I will try and get some more info. on this contest.

Thank's Mr.Clean, looking forward for more info on gathering's/contest's. Anyone here fish White Lake in Sullivan?
Looking to expand my horizon's this year. With so many bodies of water within a reasonable driving distance it would be a shame to go to the same spot's year after year. That was my main motivation to join ice shanty to begin with!
