Going to Devils Lake
« on: Dec 27, 2015, 07:31 PM »
Going to Devils lake in March to hopefully catch some jumbo perch and walleye. Anyone been there? Thinking of hiring a guide(perch patrol for a few days or doing a DIY trip? Any suggestions advice from you guys that have went? Thanks
Fishing is not about life or death, it is much more important than that! And all I have to say is FISH ON baby.

I've been there. It's a big body of water and if you have to travel a long ways you may as well do it right and get a guide. They all seem to work together to keep you on fish.
Always trying to catch those light bitin lethargic sons of fishes.

We like to stay at Woodland when we go, which in the last few years has been around New Years. Went to school with the owner. Great place to stay and get bait, info. Still should have plenty of good ice in March, but could be sloppy depending on the year. Might want to take an ATV or snowmobile. Be careful around the bridges.

If you do it yourself, perch could still be deep >30', but could be on the move shallow that time of the year. Walleyes and northerns I tend to go shallower. Never done much after dark on that lake, but twilight hrs are great. I heard there was a good walleye bit going on Irvine, Alice and Pelican during first ice.

Don't waste your time or money with a guide. Go where the big groups of people are. We were highly displeased with Perch Patrol.

Couldn't agree more. Perch Patrol was not a good decision at all.
To those who are about to fish, I salute you!

That late in the spring look shallow around the flooded timber. Should be good.

I was thinking about using perch patrol, can someone elaborate on why they were not happy with them?

The guide was worthless and you know what on a boar. He'd take us to a spot and then leave to go fish somewhere else...sometimes completely out of sight.  Needless to say he didn't get much of a tip.

Woodlands resort is the only way to go
Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy fishing equipment and that's pretty much the same thing!!!

Fish like no other, so you can catch like no other.

Woodlands resort is the only way to go

Went there June 2014 and had a great time.  the amount of water in that area is unbelievable.  Guides made it look easy.  We tried on our own one evening from shore and got humbled.
Fried eggs, hash browns, and a cup of joe.

We've been open water, one of my favorite places to fish. From what I understand the lake can be very finicky if your chasing perch.

I would go with Jason feldner as guide, he live there and guides there year round. He has houses to stay in too.

Take pics!
