Jiffy "Ripper" replacement blades??
« on: Apr 27, 2009, 09:54 PM »
Hi Folks,
Just a quick question on the "Ripper" blades - are they any good?
I was in southern Ontario last week and found a package of brand new blades in the clearance bin for $5.00.
I won't need them until next ice season but seeing as I will need to sharpen my existing blades or replace them I figured I'd buy them anyway. So - are they worth replacing the old style blades with these? I know they're only $5 but I would like to know how they perform.
Any info?
Thanks,
Glen

Thanks for the info.
I was wondering if I should use them as my primary blade or just keep them for a back-up. I am now going to put them on for next season. Thanks again.
Regards,
Glen

$5 that's a pretty sweat deal.  I switched to those a couple years ago on the old 10" jiffy, and what a difference.  Use them as your primary blade and keep your other one as the back up.  There's no possible way you won't love those rippers  ;).  8)

My jiffy has rippers, and they cut quite well. :)

I have a 30 year old jiffy and the bottom of the auger has a fixed sereted (sp) blade that is fixed. Now I bought a model 30 and a model 27 this summer at rummage sales that have removable blades at the bottom, are these the "ripper" blades you're talking about?

I think all Jiffy did to make the "Ripper" blades is take the standard blades and grind a groove in the center of each tooth. Doing that basically adds cutting edges which break up the ice better as it cuts. A huge step forward for Jiffy is when they added the extra blades on the stealth/stx versions.

My bad, the blade is removable. I keep it in the box it came in when I bought it, and had to go look at it.
