going east for christmas this weekend, and will have some downtime, so wondering if there is any good ice over there. thanks.

Casey's sells bagged ice, closest you'll get after 2 weeks of 45° weather and rain.
-
Try the ice-skating rink at Coral Ridge Mall. ;D
If anyone has been able to actually get on safe ice and fish in Johnson County for the last week I would be very surprised.

Hannen lake was best ice (5") I found last weekend near Iowa City. Sand Lake (aka Terry Trueblood Recreation area) had ice skaters all over the lake but I wasn't about to go on the ice as I measured only 3.5-4 inches just before it started warming up.

Kinda figured, but still had to ask. Thanks guys.

New Year's Eve, and the rain is coming down in Linn County on skim ice and open water. Not enough cold weather in the forecast to make that in to good ice.
Looking to be the worst ice season yet for me in southeast Iowa.

Yeah I don't think we will get fishable ice on most of the water around here this year. There's people taking risks and trying to fish, but that's not for me. Most bigger water is wide open.

Friends got out on local pond for a couple of days in mid December. 4" ice - All gone now. May be very short season and I got a new Octane too.

I drove north of hwy 20 today, around Fort Dodge and Lake Corneilla - good ice no issues

I had the flu that weekend. Didn't figure that would be my last chance to fish hardwater without driving 100+ miles for at least a month.
